Is there going to be any dual core cpus out soon does any one know, i just got a evga X58 SLI and i use it for gaming mostly and i would rather a dual core

There is but i dont know how soon,it maybe when they release the p55 chipset.

p55 chipset?? any info on this is it going to be a step up from the X58?

X chipsets are always the extreme for ethusiasts, and the P chipsets are for normal bods and paupers.

I wish i could afford a i7 setup, but my P45/6750/ddr2 will have to see me through a little longer.

P55-
P55 specs:
Socket: LGA 1160, Lynnfield and Havendale supported.
PCIe 2.0: Dual graphic card supported, Single card runs with 1×16, dual card run with 2×8.
USB: P55 integrated USB Rate Match Hub, supports as much as 14 USB 2.0 slot.
SATA: 6xSATA 3.0Gb/s,With Intel Matrix Storage Technology 9.0, P55 supports RAID 0/1/5/10.

Seems it might be south bridgeless too.

There also might be a Bloomfield dual core in the works but don't expect it anytime soon.

owell looks like a quad 920 for now

only a quad 920? how will you ever get by!

somehow you will soldier on...

...i hope :'(

Just to help further, I have attached a Nahalem roadmap for the next 18 months or so, it was a big file so couldnt copy it in here so had to put it into word so it's not particularily "user friendly" but hopefully should make some sense and answer your questions, take the prices as a "pinch of salt" although they are generally fairly good as an estimate.................

i would go for the 940 but ill swap to a dual core when there out, so why pay that much  what do you think

Your actualy going to downgrade from a quad to a dual ..... illogical.

quad are sh*t for gaming and cant oc as much as a dual with the heat on the core i7

Imo I'd stick with a quad, they are better than any dual.

I am going to stick with my Q9650 till the spring, by then the 940 will be down to current 920 levels by then, I alread have the DDR3 so 3 of my 4 sticks will go in plus I quite fancy the Gigabyte Extreme x58 board, this 9650 has a lot of life left in her yet!

I would love Q6600 @ 45nm I would definitely buy that :D

ill like to see it in games dont get me wrong the one with the same speed as a dual will keep up but not a quad at 2.66Ghz VS a dual core at 3Ghz with the same price tag, and you could oc the dual higher than that quad in heat and fsb

I mean that since I got a quad I hate going on my other comp which is a dualie, and it feels slower even though its 3ghz. I'd only go with a dual if I had been on a tighter budget.

yer but being a i7 heat is higher, umm my mates q9450 loads games and runs games slower than mine oc at 4ghz we tested them side by side we have the same set up but he has a quad

I guess it depends on prefrences because I was playing rise of nations and battlefield 2 simultaneously while chatting on msn and skype etc.

Not everybody does that many things simultaneously. :p

For the vast majority of gamers, a quad offers no real performance increase over a dual-core -- games have barely been optimised for dual-core chips, let alone quads. Check some reviews, you'll see.

As I said its a matter of preference.

will i hit 3Ghz with the 920? with a coolermaster V8 cooler with a antec fan? in my case i have now? should i upgrade case would a Zalman GT1000 be ok for cooling

It's called Havendale. It trails Lynnfield processors, expected in Q2~Q3 2009. Socket: LGA 1156.

Will not work on your EVGA X58.

they wont fit in the Socket 1366 will they and im guessing the wouldnt be as fast
