Intel Core i7 Dual core cpus?????

I wanna point something out here. The duals are faster for gaming for one main reason, they OC higher than quads(well core2 do, we don't know about the lynnfields and havendales yet). Now we're getting OC'ing results on the I7s now, and the 920 is proving to be capable of OC'ing to 4 gigs. Now also add the fact that the I7 are faster clock for clock compared to core2's, the conclusion is pretty easy to see. A i7 920 OC'ed to 3.6-3.8 will beat my e8400 OC'ed to 3.8 in gaming.

to hit 3.8Ghz on air or water?

Air. I would guess a 3.8gig 920 on air is compariable in gaming performance to a C2D or CQD at 4gig on air. What I am seeing for example in 2006 is not a great improvement in CPU score but of course, in practiacally everything else, the i7 can push ahead by a fairly significan margin.

will a coolermaster v8 be ok to oc it to 3.8 Ghz, or should i gofor the 940 and oc it to 4Ghz, with the case i have be ok for cooling.

I would think it would be OK, Fit and Dark seem to be getting 4.2gig now and that seems to be on air on a 920, check out their i7 thread to double check cooling.

They are. However, there seems to be more heat concerns than the C2D chips have. You also have more settings in the bios that play a significant part in stability, including balancing out QPI with vcore.
