Intel Core i9-13900KS

355 Watt of power at stock! 422 Watts when overclocked!!!

Holy Jesus. I mean as i thought this processor makes no sense for gaming, way too power hungry and toasty but even for creative work and multi tasking it makes little sense. I can't imagine the CPU alone pumping 350w heat into my room. I'll get heat stroke !!

You forget all about it when you see what it can do. It's a beast, no other way to describe it. But it's very much a niche processor for people who are willing to take it to the extreme. I'm in love with mine.

If you're more efficiency minded, or just a regular gamer (my case, except i'm fanatical about it), you should look for the 7800X3D instead. It should serve you well as long as you don't stray from the path that AMD has laid before you, if you change anything though... no man's land.

I'm really curious what Intel can do with the upcoming refresh, I mean this is already pushed to its limits.
It's basically a sign that Intel needs to go back to the damn drawing board already and design a whole new architecture from the ground up because this is just beyond stupid already. The power usage is, as the meme on the previous page says...

How do you even cool this damn thing? Put the radiator in front of your window air conditioner during the summer and somehow fish the tubing outside during the winter? Good way to melt the snow.
Yeah... it's either absurd levels of power consumption with intel, or dodgy software with amd. Pick your poison.
I have a Ryzen 7700X, been pretty damn good so yeah...
Member when AMD was the spaceheater inefficient CPU maker?
Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Intel needs to get a larger cache like AMD has or intel used to have on broadwell. The x3d chips smash Intel in the games that like that cache.

Intel's FX-9590 moment...

Oh well blame Raja

Regular 360mm aio I used with my 5950X works quite fine. I'm also seeing 6 GHz on two of my P-cores quite regularly.

Maybe he was thinking of the 5960X?
That doesn't even make sense because that's an HEDT-class chip from back in 2014 and there was no such thing as E-cores vs. P-cores back then.

Wow really great suite of tests! Thanks a ton for doing Altium and virt loads.

Yeah it's interesting for sure..... Raptorlake is a decent arch but the amount of power intel needs to push to stay competitive is a bit concerning. I guess we will see with Meteor Lake if this trend continues.

Awesome review as Always.
Maybe they will release the digital voltage regulator in RL+ that was supposed to go in RL and help improve efficiency compared to AL, but then got cut. They need to do something, these power scores are appalling and all for about 5% better performance than the 7950X in apps. Nothing much will change until ML though.

I would love the see one of these paired with a 4090 and both going full load.... include motherboard and everything else probably do 1000 watts

If I find my watt meter I could do that for the lols

At this rate, people are going to have to upgrade the service to their outlets for their computers; 110/120 volts (in America) isn't going to be enough.

My 5500W electric clothes dryer laughs at all CPUs padawan wattages.

By dodgy software are you referring to the core parking issue with the 7000 series 3D chips? If so I'd like to remind you that the issues Intel had with Alder lake were far worse, from scheduling issues to E-cores causing problems in a lot of apps. If we are going to be making blanket statements like company x has dodgy software for such a small issue, especially this close to the product launch, then by that logic Intel, AMD, Nvidia, and pretty much every hardware vendor is dodgy because most new products nowadays have some bugs when they are launched.

AMD will be able to patch out the core parking issues. Intel owners (13600K and above) unfortunately are stuck with the high power consumption.

Looks like a 100% virtual CPU, that just "exists" purely for statistics, than Intel has a desktop CPU that can "beat" AMD
It's laughable because it does not beat 8 core 7800X3D in gaming.

The refresh 13900KS-R will melt what is left of Greenland.

What kind of nonsense is this?

For some reason I picture this is your neighbors....

I live in a valley because i'm courteous of my neighbors when it comes to shock waves.

They are in the process of doing exactly that by working on Meteor Lake and Arrow Lake.

I have a 4090 and a 3080ti in the same room I've tried to trip the breaker running them overclocked to their max with no success.... Maybe I need this cpu in one of the systems to accomplish that....
