Intel Core i9: Hands-on test of the six-core Gulftown

You are of course right my friend. *Hangs head down in shame*. As penance, I shall post an update on my overpowered mITX project log :pimp:

Anyway, the question is how well it OCs.

At stock it runs 6 cores at 2.4Ghz. My i7 runs 4 cores at 3.33Ghz. At stock, I reckon they are about equal in performance in heavily multi-threaded apps, and the the i7 would walk all over it for gaming or any app that cannot utilize over 4 cores.

If the i9 cannot get to over 3.5Ghz land, an i7 of whatever sort at over 4Ghz would still be a better pick, and cost a ton less.

Well, they are saying that the retail cpus are going to release at speeds similar to the current quads. And I believe there are already a few over 4GHz (on non-extreme cooling) screen shots floating around.

Well, I guess we'll see how well it works out when it comes out officially. But I suspect there will be even less of those sold than they sold 975EEs.

I'd love one, but I ain't buying more CPUs until Sandy Bridge (I have a freaking harem as it is).

lol. I know the feeling. I've purposely held off on upgrading the board an cpu on this rig until 6 or 8 cores released so I could save the money I needed, because I already figured on them being retardedly expensive. lol.

You have no idea how hard it has been to resist buying a 1366 setup so far.

And it's hit 6.4ghz with extreme cooling:

Can't afford it, don't really need it, but do want it :)

I was *this* close to upgrading my Q9650 setup to an i7 860 rig. I could have done it without spending too much dollar (Sell old rig, buy discounted hardware through work), but I decided I need to curb the addiction. Four quad core systems are enough for a long while

You should be ashamed of yourself. There is never such a thing as enough power. MOAR POWAH is absolutely, 100% always needed, no matter what. :D

This from a guy who gave up the joys of a good 4.6/5.0 to play with rice burners.

give me one plsssss

I'm thinking on getting a i7 860 rig. r they susposed to be better then the i7 920's, sorry bee ngone for a long time and am just starting to get back into playing :pimp:

I think Intel need to speed up their lineup and get things moving as quick as possible, instead of maybe thinking that AMD is lagging behind and they can take their time.

I think being complacent like this was *part* of what NVIDIA did wrong with GT200 and now Fermi, they knew ATI was a bit behind so they took their sweetass time and made G92 instead of pushing for GT200 asap, and now theyre behind again...

There seems to have been working i9 silicon for months now, ramp that shit up and get 32nm i3/i5/i7/i9 out there ASAP Intel.

i9 is a Beast.

Not soon enough im afraid.
Looks like second quarter of 2010.
Got my money all saved up and nowhere to spend it.

LMAO thats to bad, oh well I got time to save up my money and go nuts next yr

I really need a 6 core CPU to play Diablo 2.

100 under 5GHZ at under 1.5v WHAT?! ZOMG the current X58's are going to support these right? god i hope my orig EVA gets a bios update im totally getting one

I have no desire to run out and buy an i9.

They make better sleepers for the street races. ;) I probably never would have switched if the Mustangs didn't keep gaining weight. I'm always on the lookout for a clean and cheap fox hatch.

My computers are the same. Don't look like much from the outside, but a bunch of high powered components on the inside.

Q3QP 3.07 ES 6 core volt hungry!!

I'm just getting my I7 rig back together, and not I9 is coming out, . . . . . .

anyway I'ma skip this and wait till 2012 to upgrade again, internal sources are pointing to 2012 being a big year for the CPU ,GPU, and consoles

No point in that bro, the world is going to end in 2012...... again
