Intel Isolates Root Cause of Raptor Lake Stability Issues to a Faulty eTVB Microcode Algorithm

How have they not pin pointed a cause by now?
Maybe they're just trying to sweep it under the rug until the next generation of chips come out. Admitting fault would be devastating to their stock price and we all know that they can't have that. Right?

I hate to say it, but I wouldn't doubt that at all. It seems probable enough. I wish these issues would've been talked about in the reviews, but I don't think I saw mention of it in either generation reviews to do with Raptor Lake and refresh, but seems like a bit of a degradation issue that flew under the radar a bit and more pronounced probably with the refresh pushing things steps further.
 
I dunno, shouldn't that affect the 12900K as well?

Didn't they thin the substrate more though between Alder Lake and Raptor Lake!? You don't want more flex/sag over time. Eventually that can create problems with heat cycling.

It seems like they did.

Alder:
Substrate Z = 1.119+/-0.095 mm
2.005±0.114 (BOTTOM OF BGA TO TOP OF DIE)

Raptor:
Substrate Z = 1.116+/-0.095 mm
Die Z is 0.37 mm
 
Adding lower power settings made sense tho, as it will make Arrow lake look better at launch lol
