Afternoon folks, I have a weird issue which has me stumped.

I picked up a B75M-D3V as a cheap board to go with a free chip to upgrade my Core 2 duo HTPC.

Now the issue I have is that with no add in card the PC works fine, I can get in the bios, windows displays correctly etc.

If I put in a graphics card, a Radeon 6970, I get no display until windows on the add in card (no bios/post) and I can't get into the BIOS, also Windows is reporting a phantom 640x480 display which is causing a nightmare with it taking over as primary display regularly.

Also when the add in card is present the OB graphics stop displaying anything even if I have an addition display plugged into it.

So the long and short is,

With no card in I can't disable the OB graphics as there isn't an add in card, and I can't see the bios WITH the add in card to disable the OB graphics.

Can anyone think of a solution?

Don't disable the built in graphics.
Make the PCI-e slot GPU primary graphics so it selects that if a card is in, if there is no card it will use the built in graphics.

This is what is currently set, but I can't see the bios nor get rid of this phantom display when I use the Radeon card.

Some motherboards wont work if the card is too powerful/uses a 6pin.

So it could be it's only designed to work with low power/draw cards.

If you have a spare card see if it boots with it.

Also, clear the bios via jumper if possible.

I have a VERY old X1650 I could try.

Ok, so that worked, I happen to have the previous card a Radeon 6570 and that works perfectly in the system. Anyone know what the constraints of these boards are then with powerful graphics cards?

Thinking about it, the 6970 has a bios switch, I remember something about UEFI bios and some AMD cards, anyone know if the 6970 had a UEFI mode or not?

Ok more reading, this may fix my issue
1. Go to Bios.

2. Go to Bios features.

3. Set "Other PCI Device ROM Priority" to "Legacy only"

4. Press "F10" to save and exit.

Seems many GTX 970 users have this issue I'm going to fettle with it later as the 6570 doesn't cut the mustard for my son playing Train simulator on the TV.

Some did... What make and model?
If you look in the TPU GPU database you will see the UEFI and legacy bioses for some of the cards.

Hmm Asus Direct CU II no UEFI mentioned.

Whats the power supplys watts ?

550w Corsair CS it's a PC usually used for watching TV/DVD but my son uses it to play old games too.

I'm pretty sure it isn't power, the PC boots to windows and plays games stable with the 6970 but the PC has a phantom display and you don't see anything until windows boots.

With the 6570 it is 100% ok you see the bios/post screen and it even has no phantom display issue.

Reading up on it many users with B75 chipset boards with GTX 970's have the exact same issue and have to change that bios setting. I'll give it a go tonight if I have the time.
