Intel plans to further strengthen its leadership by releasing 1333MHz FSB Kentsfield Quad-Core processors. The new Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 processor will operate at 3.00GHz/1333MHz FSB with 2x4MB L2 cache and 130W TDP. Coupled with the upcoming X38 chipset, Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 will provide the most powerful Core 2 platform up to date. The QX6850 is set to cost US$999 when released. At the same time the QX6800 CPUs will cost US$999 as well.

ummm why are the 2.93 1066 and 3ghz 1333 the same price? seems odd being the extra fsb shouls give a decent boost in performance.

the intel price squeeze continues, its going to be interesting to see the pricing for the next AMD chips.

it just makes me think whats coming next in performance with the 45nm cores

to make a Q be so low

No doubt, I'm waiting unitl after Christmas to buy my next system. I would like to see some cpu's that could possibly run 3dmark on thier own and run it well, or something like that. I would love to see IBM come into the consumer market with some kind of cell chip. This is the lull before the storm, cpu's are going to be making a huge jump in performance before 2007 is over.

i was thinking about buying a E6850 in Q3 but now i mite get a Q6600. what you guys think cause i dont know cause i really only game and not many games will use Quad core and they probly wont for a long time

well I might get one to. the Q6600 when they get that low and just OC it and save $733 over the C2E QX6850 :D

but does anyone know when Intels going to change there socket size? cuz I would wait and just get the last cpus for the 775 socket or are they going to be using it for a while I hope :p

i guess they would be keeping the 775 socket for a bit longer

Can someone explain what Q3 or Q4 means?... I'm guessing its a time of the year or maybe seasons?... Sorry if its a "noob" questions, heh...

I dont think games will benefit from quad core much for a while, beside taking care of so extra apps.. however if you want to run a virus scan or convert a movie at the same time of your gaming it will help.:) $266 is what distributors will pay right?

Q3 = Third Quarter and Q4 = Forth Quarter of a year.

When does Q3 begin I want a Quad core for that price nooowwww !!!!!!

When does Q3 begin?
oh, my goodness! Next question will be: When does New Year begin? Or when is christmas?

130W TDP
These things are getting hot again like the P4's. Time for Intel to pull out a new power management trick and go, again, to reduced fab size, and again, to lower Vcc. (ULV)

I love the QX6850 being the same price as the QX6800. More FSB and a slight bump in speed for the same price. ::rofl:: I suspect AMDs to be priced better and offer better performance. But hell, I'm a fan of AMD! :)

Im waiting for AMDs comeback. They've got bring out somthing big to persuade me to drop my Core 2 Duo.

My plan for next year is to get a Q6600 and some huge piece of cooling and OC it to hell.

Woah. a quad for ~~$250 by Q3... wow. i could actually afford something like that.....
amd's going to be in a real price squeeze w/ intel's quads once barcelona releases. but then again, if barcelona kicks ass, it could be a moot point.

is the Q's going by the fiscal ?

It's official, I'm gonna upgrade in Q3 2007!!! (Provided I have money and I'm still a techie loser) :p

Second that notion! provided i can gather $4000 by then (lappie for college rings up at 3k, plus system upgrades...heh)
