An Intel Rocket Lake-S CPU with 8 cores and 16 threads has recently surfaced in an overclocking video, being pushed to 6.923 GHz operating frequency, as showcased via a CPU-Z screen-grabbed from the video. Neither author of the video or the overclocker that pulled this feat are currently known. However, it can be seen from the CPU-Z that the overclocked CPU at 6.9 GHz supports instruction sets not available to Intel's current lineup of desktop CPUs, but that will be supported by Rocket Lake-S: namely, SHA and AVX512F. Likewise, the cache sizes correspond to the expected changes for Intel's Rocket Lake-S.

The overclocked CPU was paired with overclocked DDR4 memory as well, which was brought up to 6,666 MHz, buoyed by a crispy 1.830 V. Motherboard information is scarce, but it's speculated that it's a Gigabyte-branded Z590 motherboard. Perhaps this video is part of an Intel-pushed marketing attempt to increase desirability of its Rocket Lake-S CPUs to overclockers and enthusiasts. Expect the official Rocket Lake-S unveiling to occur during CES, with market availability around March.

ok? but what does it push on air and water and how much power does it take to accomplish this (yikez 1.83V for 6.6) and how does it stack up to Ryzen 3000 and 5000?

honestly the only thing that interests me about this cpu is that 1, its a complete mess which I like, I like the oddballs.
and 2, that Iris XE and how it preforms with Quicksync for livestreaming.

also yeah by that lighting on the southbridge it does look like a Gigabyte board.

Sorry, but 6,9 Ghz is nothing new on a CPU on LN2. You get my interest when we break the 8 GHz barrier or close to 9 GHz.

It's not ground breaking obviously but shows the chip can scale which isn't all that surprising. It however does imply there's potential there and more importantly its not a dog. It's not as cool as say 64 cores at 5.5ghz but it's not bad.

well they will be saying "wait till Ryzen 5000 is IN STOCK"

its funny right how intel 10th gen is readily available and AMD is out of stock...wonder if that means that more people (want to) buy AMD?

And or possibly do something at that speed perhaps but I'm with you, a max ln2 run way below any record is a massive meh.

AMD offering will only matters above 8 cores and their supply will still be very low because 80% of the AMD's 7nm capacity is going to consoles https://www.hardwaretimes.com/amd-p...nm-capacity-allocated-to-console-socs-report/ With PCIe 4.0 Rocket Lake is now at feature parity with Zen platforms, and even comes with additional features like Optane support, AVX512 and Xe-LP iGPU for those who need them. The i5 and i7 SKUs will be popular and beat the entire Zen 3 lineup in single core tasks and gaming. I don't see reviewers still recommending Zen 3 with the available stocks being so low. Intel is selling more than AMD despite what most people would think Steam Hardware Survery [2020-12] SHARE.png

Anyone notice how the sample was only supposed to be running at 3.4 GHz in the cpuz info in the vid? Betcha that even IF this chip can match a Zen3 core for core at 8 cores it'd be pulling twice the power to do it and be running hotter'n a Geforce 480 to do it

Looking at the stock levels it seems AMD are gaining popularity and that's all they're trying to achieve.
The fact you can buy a modern intel but not a modern AMD chip indicates one is selling all they make while the other will have some explaining to do to investors.
Lack of availability in some ways equals the win.
Random non benched feats(on topic) mean nothing.
As does us V them nonsense in this thread, it's not the point.
The point is PR for Intel.

They will still be talking about Zen 3 as that 8c Rocket lake chip will still be slower than the 12c and 16c Zen 3 parts. Which intel won't have an answer for until Alderlake which will be competing with Zen 4.

But in a nutshell you prefer intel.

nothing new to see here moving on...

What a joke. AMD is not selling enough Zen 3 and RDNA 2 parts because they CAN'T. Do you understand they can't even fulfill their obligations to the console market? https://www.techradar.com/news/micr...lp-in-combating-xbox-series-x-stock-shortages TSMC is their bottleneck. Selling everything you can produce means NOTHING. Looking at the stock levels is a great deception.

Sure praise Intel, but sales numbers don't lie. Ryzen is the way to go for already quite a long time. Might obviously change with RKL.

6.9 GHZ is most definitely going to enrich my life. Making me live longer. It's a must have to my overclock world. Overclocking is king. Can't live without it. Will be rushing out to buy Rocket Lake. Alder Lake later this year may be pushed to 12 GHZ because the chip is much bigger to start with. We are living in a brave new world.

yup if that was the case people would been doing Bitcoin mining on Zen cpu's since they have supported SHA since Zen 1

Hmm, is that why AMD is selling many times the volume of both CPUs and motherboard on Amazon and other online retailers?

Even if you assume steam numbers are correct (which steam itself proves they aren't by making large corrections frequently), marketshare is not sales. You are conflating the two. AMD is outselling Intel 2 - 3 times both CPU and motherboard wise at every other retailer.

Another example: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/market_share.html

Steam Survey is not even remotely a reliable source of what's selling right now.

Excellent, finally a CPU lineup that won't be OUT of STOCK. Tech medias will no longer be talking about Zen 3 once Rocket Lake is released.
Your tone clearly got a provocative hint, but Intel not getting the favors of the tech media was their own doing. After sandy bridge they decided to kickback and do the minimum, so Intel dominance ended up being boring with only a few interesting experiments here and there, like the eDRAM, but that was only for Broadwell. They took all their time in the world to make higher core count available on the mainstream plateforme at a mainstream price because without competition they didn't have the motivation to try hard.

Intel could have used a couple more years being humble, they need to get into their skull that resting on their laurels is not something that a tech company should do. That's one of the biggest reasons as to why Intel bashing has become an International sport on reddit. If we were under the impression that they were actually trying, their very best before Ryzen spooked them, the community wouldn't have bashed them. You can say that this is what's called "though love". Everyone is aware that they got huge funds, that they have talented engineers, both on the CPU and foundry side, but they got too cocky after 15 years of dominance and they needed to have a reality check.

The current situation with the lower nodes is nothing to be happy about, if no one else can compete with TSMC, or if they can't manage to increase their output, the futur is going to grim and Intel might be tempted to take it easy again. A true monoply is the last thing that we need.

From what I've seen so far, Rocketlake isn't the ' AMD killer ' so many seem to have been hoping for, but let's see how it performs when reviewed before making any judgements.
And yes, I agree with others; 6.9GHz under Ln2 is n't exactly spectacular but again, it's almost certainly a ES chip on a ( at best ) Beta motherboard, so I'm sure there's plenty more to come.
