Internet disconnects when playing online games.

Weird update

the internet connection functions normally in the morning.
it starts disconnecting in games only in the evening.

i just played a match of deep rock galactic and i was hosting. Everybody had normal ping.
yesterday, in the evening, ping was 300+ for all, and it disconnected at some point.
Your TIM HUB 4331 has a reset button, if its had an update, try using that button to reset the unit.
well yes, because other computers work well with it, so it must be the laptop, no?
NO. I suggest you reread what I wrote regarding DFS channels. Or better yet, look it up.
Your crippled Windows OS may be the answer.

I find it hard to believe you don't know the difference between a modem and a router, and how to configure the basics of your router.

In any event, I wish you good luck in finding an answer.

check your router settings.
I switched to a new connection at my new place. Its a fibre optic modem+ router thing.

The bastard had some issues with UDP ports which games used. But the ISP came and configured it and it works fine now. My connection didnt disconnect from my desktop, but onlines games just wouldnt work.

EDIT: never mind. looks like it happens only in the evenings lol.

EVENING DISCONNECT CONFIRMED
i tried the same game (deep rock galactic),and it kept disconnecting. the hiccups kept happening.

You could have a shared IP address meaning other homes on the street share the same bandwidth I don't understand how it works fully but I know it can cause issues the other thing that could be happening is a IP conflict with someone at home but it's unlikely considering your knowledge you would have set a static IP address.
how can i check if i have a static IP adress?

i have tried that button quite some times, since i thought it is caused by the modem. no change.

thanks man

yes and the main problem is that other laptop works no problem in the evening!

how can i check if i have a static IP adress?

Go to whatismyip.com first, to check your IP. Then turn your modem off, keep it off for a while, then turn back on. Go back to that site and look at your IP again.

i tried that, the ip number does change!

Yeah that means you have a dynamic IP. I don't think it's very related to your issue, though.

at this point it seems even you guys dont know what to tell me.. i guess i will try hotspot from another phone..
regarding ethernet cable, i am not even sure i have one!!

Well, I already told you some stuff. You not having an ethernet cable is on you too. You can try phone, but careful not to have it on a lot - as that can murder your mobile phone bill.

Is there a difference in how you (or other people) use the Internet in the morning, compared to the evening? For example: listening to music on youtube?

You said there wasn't a difference in temperature, but that would be my best guess, that the adapter is overheating, though that wouldn't explain why it only crashes in games. The event viewer entries seem quite clear to me that the adapter (or the driver, I guess) is malfunctioning when you get disconnected.

Trying a different adapter is the only thing I can suggest at this point. Having spare hardware is just an important/unfortunate part of computer troubleshooting I'm afraid, unless you take it to a shop.

at this point i am thinking of changing my stance regarding buying additional stuff.. i have become too desperate.

not that i can think of? the other person with the other laptop usually uses youtube, and games rarely!
while i play...well, whenever i can, morning or evening.

i am starting to think the problem might be hardware related. because i have used the same laptop (with the same internet card) for two years, and only now there's problems, even after a reformat.

truly.

Yeah, just buy an ethernet cable. It's dirt cheap and would pave your way towards knowing where the issue is truly. Then you can move towards another direction of getting Internet, maybe by pulling a long cable.

I suspect the modem is garbage, he needs to gripe at the ISP, its possible the ONT, card, or provisioning from the ISP are bad as well

if you are half decent with tools, you can swap your laptop's wifi card for any friends' laptop.

takes a couple of mins. that will rule out h/w issues

i thought so too. but he said the other device works well. though im not sure what he means by works well, does it game well without crashing or not?

stock ISP modems are absolute garbage. I have one :( and they wont let me change it out ffs.

maybe i missed something, what router that you use, some low end router may disconnect often when running in heavy load

Sad to say the 2Wire units here would work well but only if they were new. (2wire worked on dsl or fiber)

Yup overheat, i remember being in the military had 1 router and if too many were on it it would drop the connection under gaming, wifi ofc, in 2005.

They won't let you? Do you need their permission? Go into the router web UI click advanced>internet connection, get the pppoe login username and password then put that into any router you like. Last time my ISP came to visit they were staring at a mesh access point for 15minutes probably wondering why there was no Ethernet cables plugged into it.

@ Op if you want to play games and have an easy experience on your pc I would get rid of windows aem! There's plenty of guides how to build a windows image without the spyware and it sounds like you really need windows to take care of your driver installs.

If you want privacy when browsing or using a pc be it for nefarious things or paranoia download virtualbox and use a VM. Don't run an advanced OS when you lack the underlying knowledge to make it work and as other have posted either use a Lan cable or get rid of the isp router.

Did the same with an isp provided adsl gateway, after it was replaced once, had the needed info, to include ip address, when that 1 failed, I setup a N Gateway by netgear 7 years ago. Been perfect.

its not a router. its a fibreoptic modem + router. and config is OTT from the ISP itself. there is some weird way of loggin in. there is no password or anything. something is done with certificates.
the router/modem is weird as well. seems to be running some kinda linux and has ram and cpu as well lmao.

I used to use a buttset to activate onts

Long shot, but what happens if you go into your router configuration program and DISABLE IP v6?

On some crappy AT&T U-verse modems, there was a fatal hardware flaw long ago where if you had IP v6 enabled, it would cause the entire router to lose connection and to power cycle randomly, meaning any TV service or anything else attached to the router would be lost. I doubt that's your problem but it won't hurt to check.

Sometimes the easiest fix is just to go buy a decent router, like an Asus AX 5700 Wifi 6 router, with the 2.5g port option if you want (there's custom firmware you can flash on it:

Actually it was hdmi pushing a foreign voltage to the Hardwired STBs which were hpna or ethernet connection that would trip the modem. Fyi the modems would do an auto update once synced the first time.

I used to do the work for them.

Same problem happened on comcast

believe me i tried. i called DAILY for 3 weeks straight. in the end they hooked me up with someone smart, that fixed the problem. only for it to appear again 2 weeks later.

yes, other laptop can game, in the same games (battlefields, quake etc) without disconnecting.

same for me, i think i remember that other modems just dont work!!

i posted it earlier in the thread, tim hub and xiaomi.
may disconnect often when running in heavy load
it disconnects when playing battlefields, at what, 1-2mbps?
but it downloads from steam at 30mbps no problem.

there are 4 devices connected to the modem, 2 laptop and 2 phones!!

i connected to http://192.168.1.1/ , then logged in, and it says that IPV6 is connecting. Now that i think about it, it was "connecting" endlessly last time i checked too, 3 days ago.
i disabled it and will report back.

all of that said, i have another
WEIRD UPDATE

yesterday, sunday 24 april, the line was disconnecting in the morning, instead of the evening.
so i went and shut down the modem, waited a bit, and then started it again.
Would you believe it, i could game for the whole evening no problem, i was hosting on Deep rock galactic and people had 26 (!) ping, never disconnected.
what does this mean??

this means the modem is shit. My isp told me to restart the modem atleast once a day lmao.
