My wife hinted today she may buy me an iPod touch for our anniversary. However I have a concern. I know the regular iPod can be used to transfer files and basically be utilized as an external HD if I wanted. But Iv heard the "touch" is like the iPhone and cant be used in the same manner. Would any of you guys know?

I don't want one if thats the case.

i have an iphone 3g.. how do you transfer files to and fro from it? i'll see if i can get it to transfer to the iphone.. the touch is basically the old iphone without a sim interface and external speakers

the touch/iphone have to have itunes to load stuff onto the ipod/iphone. therefore you cannot use it like a flashdrive..... unless you know alot about how it works.

That's a reason I didn't get the iphone, but in retrospect, I think now I wouldn't care. I got an instinct and it's given me problems, and it's potential definitely isnt tapped at all either. It allows trasnfer of files to a built in microsd card.

As an instinct owner, however, I am now looking at the ipod touch to satisfy the part of me that wanted the iphone. How does one trasnfer their files to the ipod touch if it can't be connected to a computer? For my phone, its as simple as a usb cable or even a usb adapter to the micosd card (works much faster.)

Fit, you're saying you have to buy all your mp3s through itunes?

hell no... i have never bought a damn song from itunes. all my music is from ***********.

you have to use itunes(the program) to do all the transferring. you can jailbreak it and get alot more functionality though.

if you need help with that let me know(here in this thread please)

so without "jail breaking it" you can't simply transfer mp3s? Is breaking it hard?

you can do whatever you want without jailbreaking it. yuo just dont get all the goodies.

JB is SOOOOO easy

update to the latest firmware and then DL Ziphone and it will do it all for you.

i have an itouch and you can put what ever music you want on it it dose not need to be bought from itunes but you can not enable your ipod as a flash drive like you can with the ipod classic.

quick question for you, because im stupid and your smart ;) If I have an unlocked iphone, can I run it on the t-mobile network or sprint network?

any gsm network yes. not sprint, verizon, altel etc.

you can do whats called "jailbreaking" the phone. Its pretty easy, just google jailbreak iphone/itouch.

why do that... just use Ziphone. it does it for you in one step.

i have an itouch and you can put what ever music you want on it it dose not need to be bought from itunes but you can not enable your ipod as a flash drive like you can with the ipod classic.

So this answers my question. I CAN NOT use the itouch as a flash drive. THAT SUCKS!!

meh... the other functions make up for it. im selling my 8gb touch if anyone wants it.
