without vista?

no , there was someone trying to port dx10 to xp , but microsoft had something to stop that project or something . And u have a good enuf pc for vista , and the game performance hit is nearly 1% now as there was a review proving this .

Well...
In Crysis there's some kind of tweak that enables DX10-like effects... and there's some kind of project going on somewhere that is supposed to emulate DX10 in XP

Depends on the game. Some of them have DX10 settings that are really just DX9 enhancements, and can be hacked into the DX9 version without horrible performance losses.

I think that project was dropped a while ago. It was terribly buggy and inefficient.

The Crysis "Very High" CVAR tweaks are a reasonable facsimile for DX10, but not entirely.

Aye. DX10 will never come to XP.

The project you guys are referring to, attempted to use an Open GL wrapper around the API to emulate how the DX API is built into Vista's kernel.

A lofty attempt at best. They had some interesting ideas, though it just isn't happening.

And I don't understand why people want DX10 on XP. DX10 does more things than DX9. If DX10 only processed at the same rate as DX9 it would be faster. Yet it does not. A powerful car with lots of weight added, is no longer that much better at out performing a less powerful car.

If you have the hardware to run DX10, then you have the hardware to run it in Vista.

Bringing it to XP wouldn't make it any faster.

If you want Ultra quality settings enabled (which are disabled in XP) then use this config http://crymod.com/thread.php?postid=188940

It gives you better than very high quality but at a very small performance hit. I get 20-25FPS with my setup and it looks BEAUTIFUL!

I don't think Microsoft will ever allow DX10 on XP. Just get Vista :D

:toast:

Quite simply, no. I tried to get the DX10 mod to work with XP and it was terrible, buggy as shit. If you want DX10, then it's vista all the way. Honestly, I like vista better than XP now that I have it, and got it tweaked.
