Hello,
I Decided To Upgrade My CPU, M/B, RAM ..
TBH I Cant Play Games Smoothly! Even on CSGO I Have Something like Bottleneck! [Fps Drops From 130 to 40-50] [@1080p]
I Want to Know My R9 390 Can Handle I5 10400F or Not? Do You Think Its Worth to Upgrade?

This Is My Specs:
M/B: ASROCK 970 EXTREME 4
CPU: AMD X6 1090T
GPU: GIGABYTE R9 390
RAM: G.SKILL RIPJAWS 8GB
PSU: COOLER MASTER 750W

And This Is New M/B , CPU, RAM I Want To Buy:
I5 10400F
ASUS TUF GAMING B460-PLUS
Crucial 8GB Ballistix Sport LT Gray CL15

Thank You!

that's a pretty decent upgrade but you really need 16gb of ram.. (2x8GB for Dual Channel)

Thanks for Reply..
So, Do You Think My R9 390 Will Finally Do Something Great With This New Rig?

Yea that 1090T is pretty long in the tooth and I wouldn't recommend it

I'd say the i5 would be a great upgrade or even the Ryzen 3600 with 16GB of RAM

Of course, considering Phenom II barely hits the IPC of 2006's Conroe, no matter how much cores it has.

Even a 1600AF would be a huge upgrade, let alone the 10400F/3600, and all of those new CPUs would also save you a ton of idle/load CPU power.

General system speed would improve greatly and double at least the actual performance sounds reasonable.

Whatever system he builds new would kick his old one right in the corez.

You need 16 Gb DDR4, make sure its 2666mhz, G skill has ripjaws v 2666mhz cl 15, perfect for your build

It's pointless to buy 2666MHz max DDR4 for anything when all higher clocked DDR4 have XMP profiles for 2666MHz with more potential for tightening up the timings, and the latter don't really cost more to begin with. My own Crucial 3200C16 E-die is CL14 at 2666 before manual tweaking.

Crucial 8GB 2666MHz CL19 is the cheapest RAM in my country..
do u guys prefer it?

sense you are gaming at 1080p, the setup you listed will work good. even that gpu will be fine. now, i would suggest different ram if possible. can you list any other modules that you can get in your area. everyone here will be more than willing to help. im not going to suggest a different cpu and mb because you may just get sent chasing parts for minimal gains. those new parts listed will last years. so as stated early, look around a little more for ram and post up what you have found, that way we can let you know whats good and whats not.

No way, the 1090T is way too old. Remember the original Core series, the Nehalem everyone loved? It kicked the crap out of the Phenom II, and even it is finally becoming useless for gaming (which isn't always the end-all be-all, but that's what this thread is about). Besides being too slow, they're also lacking support for instruction sets such as AVX, which a growing number of games are requiring these days.

@xaxi I echo most of the people in this thread that say the 10400f would be a good upgrade, but you really need at least 16GB ram. It's pretty much the new normal. You can find 8GB these days in low end desktops off the shelf at Walmart. While you're seeing how well that R9 390 does, you can use that time to consider a GPU upgrade (or not) while the current supply/demand situation cools down.

i was talking about the system he was meaning to buy, not his old system.

The R9 390 (nonX) is as good as an RX570 which is still a nice 1080p card. Maybe with not all bells and whistles for AAA games, but still. And 10400F is also a really nice CPU for games.
So this upgrade does make sense.

And go for 2x8GB of RAM definitely!

Hi,
That's a very poor choice pretty much why it's cheap.

Asgard Loki Gaming RGB 16GB 8GBx2 3200Mhz CL16 Memory
Geil Evo Potenza 16GB 8GBx2 3000Mhz CL16 DDR4 Memory
Gskill Aegis 16GB 8GBx2 3000Mhz CL16 DDR4
Geil Evo Potenza 16GB 8GBx2 3200Mhz CL16 Memory
G.SKILL Aegis 16GB 8GBx2 3200MHz CL16 Memory
TeamGroup T-FORCE DELTA TUF Gaming Alliance RGB 16GB 8GBx2 2400Mhz CL16
Kingston HyperX Fury 16GB 8GBĂ—2 DDR4 3000Mhz CL15 Desktop Ram

whats your suggestion from these items?
[from the cheapest to the most expensive!]

To be sure the memory works without issues with your motherboard, check your motherboard manufacturer memory QVL.
However maybe there isn't a memory QVL online anymore for your motherboard because of it's age...

Hi,
Any of the 3200c16 or even 3000c15 all are the same chips but yes it would be nice if the board qvl had any of them listed.

For this instance any of those mem kit's should work. i5 on B460 only runs up to 2666 IIRC.

Your current cpu aint bad but its out of date, for sure +1 to upgrade, and get an 2x8 Ballistix memory kit

Thank you for replies
since i need 16 GB ram (as u said) and im on budget, do u guys prefer any other Cheaper M/B ?
Like this two:
1) GIGABYTE B460 HD3 (rev. 1.0)
2) BIOSTAR B460GTA LGA <--- this one is really good on budget in my country

and do u guys prefer a Single 16GB ram or Double 8GB Ram?
(TBH i prefer Single 16GB because its cheaper)
1) Geil Evo Forza 16GB 3200Mhz CL16 Memory
2) Geil Evo Potenza 16GB 8GBx2 3000Mhz CL16 DDR4 Memory
3) G.SKILL Aegis 16GB 3000MHz CL16 Memory

and one more thing; i've got a Deepcool Gammaxx S40 on my X6 1090T..
Does it Compatible with I5-10400F ??

 Thanks a Million

The Biostar GTA is really good, TPU actually did a review on it and it came out solid !

Get double 8gb ram because the motherboard is dual channel meaning it needs 2 ram installed for maximum bandwidth.

As of the Deepcool Gammaxx S40 you need the intel bracket that was included in the box, if you still have the box somewhere get it and install the intel bracket on your new motherboard then put the cooler on it, otherwise the included intel stock cooler in the 10400f should be fine

Can you find this ram kit in your place

This is actually the best kit for your build because it comes with the lowest timings ( lower = better )

I agree, some memory list's Ryzen support specifically, at least look to buy that IMHO.

The ones above are specifically intel tested.
Hang on sorry It is intel good choice.
