Recently went 1440P and preferring it over 1080P, when went from 1680x1050 to 1080P never felt I gained enough windows desktop space, so my main reason for going 1440P was this.
I had an Eizo FG2421 (24" VA), I used 120Hz with V-Sync on or off depending on game/FPS. As it's a VA panel the blacks where super, especially when large amount was on-screen, I noted no glow to it; as if the pixels where literally turned off.
I got a Dell U2515H (25" IPS), when a lot of black is on-screen it's not like the VA Eizo, but expected this as it's IPS. I mainly notice it when desktop backgrounds have large blocks of black in or say loading screens, etc. Due to the Dell's screen size/resolution the PPI makes the screen far sharper, which I like a lot . IMO not having any GUI scaling issues TBH and made no changes to it in Win7 or 10 from default setup. I suspect I do have some back light bleed , upper left corner worse than lower left, only those 2 corners seem to exhibit it. It's more noticeable when room has low lighting coupled with when large amount of black is on-screen. In normal lighting hard to notice it, overall happy with screen/1440P, I do believe the colours look slightly better on the IPS panel vs VA.
In games where I got 120FPS+ @ 1080P and now playing them at say lower FPS @ 1440P I don't notice the difference blatantly. For example SWBF may seem ever so slightly smoother/fluid when run at 1080P with V-Sync on @ 120Hz vs 1440P with V-Sync on @ 60Hz, but it's not enough of difference for me to change back to 1080P . As I never buy games at release (so literally wait upto a year to get them) I'm hoping the Fury X will last me at least another year or so.
On another note Crysis 3 still makes my jaw drop and now at 1440P makes me wanna complete it again. As I have yet to sell the Eizo when I have swapped over to it, it's also surprising how it looks smaller screen size vs the Dell, when it's only an 1" difference on the diagonal.
