you know what this would be a good idea for example you make a list of componenets borken down by indavidual part....than say you already made in each sub section a list of mobos pocs etc...than when say sombody selcts a 6400+ AM2 when they drop down the mother board list only am2 mother boards are available...and make that kind of compatability for each section so if someone pics a 775 mobo only 775 procs are avaialbe..and so on and so forth...and as you select each component on the side a little java script or html script window automatically calculates how much these parts will cost that you have chosen so far.....and in this wndow their is another drop down that will allow you to pic euro rupee usd etc.....now under this price window is another little script box linked to product specification and this gives you ~ how much wattage you will draw for the parts you have already selected...and this ties into the psu sub catagory..for example if you picked a q6600 and dual GX2's 450 PSU's will automatically become unavailable.....it would be very handy for ppl looking to build a system...i could help with this if yo wish

Excellent idea. You could hire some of us as "customer advisors".

I don't really think W1zz planned on distributing the parts through this website, but just a generator to help noobs make their first self-built PC.

Another draw-back to the generator though is going to be constant price changes in hardware, and who has mail in rebates and when.
The concept has it's pros and cons, but I really can't imagine whether or not it would be worth it.

You might want to add a socket selection before the actual CPU.

Some people have no idea about socks, thats why I say let it break down.

Well I doubt you couldn't run a 533 bus P4 in your blood iron. But the other way around would be a problem.

This mobo will not boot any CPU under a 800FSB been tried with a celery I have on hand. Booted on an ASUS P5N-E though. Bios on the Blood Iron does not contain the code to recognize lesser CPU's resulting in a no CPU speaker error!

this would be really helpful! you could have like 3 or 4 diffent options to start with like mid to extreme and have all the other options like cpu/gpu subcategorized to each option, the only problem is it would need constant updating.

Methinks the first thing you'd want to determine is what range you'd want to be in. Then display configurations that max out each of those by limiting the total value. and excluding parts that would cost more than 20% of the total. Initially it would be a pain in the ass to get coded properly, but efficient in the long run as each new part could be assigned a tag that fits in each category.

Or even better, assign a tag that is dynamic with the price of the part, then abuse one of the many price engines out there to update the database daily. Hmm... this may be a bit complicated for html. I guess it depends on your level of programming.

Entry-Budget - under 500$
100$ limit on a single component (-OS)

Mainstream-Midrange - 500-900$ (-OS)
180$ limit on a single component

Performance-Gaming - 900-1500$
300$ limit on a single component
exclude parts under 50$ (except mouse/keyboard/HSF)

Extreme-Retarded - over 1500$
no limit
exclude parts under 100$

On top of all that, you could add RTM dates for people trying to find the most recent released parts. GPU's are good for having confusing names. Imagine someone getting a Radeon 9600Pro instead of an nVidia 9600GT. Maybe number of cores for the CPU list, it'd cover the Dual Core Opteron and Pentium D processors that are less obvious.

Whilst I think this is a highly admirable idea, it's going to be a lot of work. Why not use the existing reference wiki for all of this info? It just needs more publicity to get people to put the info in.

I just think a wiki is less formal than a database and encourages more verbose data entries. This allows/encourages people to provide an explanation of their advice and provides an easier opportunity for constructive criticism, rather than a database administrator trying to make the decisions and maintain the data.
