Raw read error rate and seek error rate are rapidly rising. Drive was originally shucked from a Seagate external several years ago and has been run in various servers and computers since. It's always worked great, 0 trouble, no weird noises, no weird performance drops, nothing.

I just plopped it into my Unraid box and I noticed the RRER and SER are going up quickly! I did some Googling and found some posts, articles, and forum replies saying "it's perfectly normal" and some saying "OMG it's gonna die tomorrow!"

So, here I am hoping for a clear answer!

Looks like it will die sooner rather than later. Might be days or months. This is your warning.

Use SeaTools (beware some of the tests can erase the drive). If it generates an RMA code, Seagate doesn't trust it nor should you.

Vibrations in the chassis can cause error rates to climb. Especially from drives that were never intended to be in a RAID.

I wouldn't risk it, losing data like losing one of my family :) . back it up and then back up the back up.

Interesting thought. This drive has seen lots of 24/7 use in a Lenovo desktop with no other drives, but now it's in my 4U chassis with lots of other drives.

hi,

i know it is old but i have one since 2013 which is running fine 12hour per day . so almost 10years of using.
I just have the first issue now :

That drive have better quality than i expected when i bough it, seagate made it beyond my dream : more than 9years !
My other WD drives did not long such time without issue !
