Hey guys, I just purchased an used windforce 1070 from gigabyte.

I wanted to remove the shroud and repaste the card with some noctua nt h1 paste but I can't remove it from some reason.

I remove all the screws from the card that are visable from the back of the pcb, but no luck.

Maybe take some pictures, and use paint ( the program in Windows, not actually painting the card) to put dots on the screws you have out of the cooler. At least, it would narrow it down a bit ;)

Looks to me like 7 screws gets the cooler off the card. Four around the GPU die, and three on the power delivery end. Looking at the cooler versus the card that is. However, there are four more screw holes in the PCB (11 total copper-color ringed screw holes) that I see, even if I do not see the corresponding threaded standoffs on the underside of the cooler.

I removed those 7 screws, the heatsink still wouldn't budge, I didn't want to force it off and risk damaging the card.

Give it a but of oomph.. sometimes these things are held on by the thermal pads and paste surprisingly well.

A repaste isnt really necessary in the first place but...

Use a heat gun or hair dryer

Run the card for 5 minutes to heat it up, best in intensive stress, then try again before it cools off. Paste should get a little easier to get off.

I contacted the seller, he said the card shouldn't need.

I'm go in to test it and check temps before I take it apart.

What is the best way to check temps on the vram on the card? I use afterburner and gpuz to check the core.

Thanks.

Of course it is not needed..it's a couple year old card!

Vram is Likely not monitored. You are worrying about nothing... just enjoy your card. :)
Yeah your right I'm not go in to worry about it.
