I got my X1800XT 256MB this morning, all I can say is WOW. Anyone that says it's not an improvment over the X1800GTO is full of it.

3dMark05 - 8168
Doom3 1600x1200 Ultra 16XAA - 85FPS
F.E.A.R Max Computer Max Video Card - 0% Under 25, 31% 25-60, 69% Above 60 FPS.

I will run a few more synthetic tests when I eat lunch.

I only have a few problems with it, mainly being that ATI tool really screws it up. Artifacts everywhere the second that I launch it. Dosen't matter much since I am using tray tools. The second is the fact that it sounds like a leaf blower in my case.

The thing I am most impressed about with the XT is how much better it does in games. The synthetic tests are close to the same (7600/8160), but it destorys the GTO's performance in game.

does it still have the dual slot cooler like the original 512 1800xts..

if it does i cant see why it should be that noisy.. my 1900xtx isnt.. it screams like a banshee when i first boot up for couple of seconds then when the ati fan control takes over it settles down nicely..

Yeahm I have the dual slot cooler. I have the fan ramped up quite a bit to keep it cool, I should probably turn it down.

Simply not true if you compare the stock 1800xt cooler with the stock 7900GT, I have had both and the 7900GT's is considerably quieter, however the 7900GT runs very much cooler than the 1800 so even if it wasen't if you had it on "smart" it would never run above 50% at load so would still seeem quieter.

"Yeahm I have the dual slot cooler. I have the fan ramped up quite a bit to keep it cool, I should probably turn it down"

course u should.. its temp controled and set by ati.. if extra cooling is needed it will ramp itself up..

all these modern high speed fans are meant to be temp/speed controled.. they only speed up when its needed.. quite a few folks dont seem to grasp this simple concept but its how its meant to be.. he he

i would if i had to run my 1900 fan flat out.. it would do my f-cking head in.. but there are fans and there are fans.. some make more racket than others..

i always find the last thousand or so rpm u get from a fan makes lots more racket for very little extra cooling.. and taking stuff that close to the edge a little more heat causes it to bomb is pretty much a waste of time as well.

i only commented to be honest cos somewhere back in the thread the noise was being complained about.. he he he

plus i recon some dudes cant resist running a fan flat out.. its in an overclockers blood or seems to be... he he he

I know what you mean, I try to keep mine below 75% otherwise I cant hear myself fart and thats never a good thing! Thing is keeping it at that still gives me excellent performance and overclocks in everyday use, at the end of the day I want the card to at least last a few months, taking temps to the top of the margin for prolonged periods on a GPU cannot be good.

I made it come on 75% at 55*C, it works much better and it's quieter.
