Nice, to be fair thats how much they should cost if MSRP was more reasonable. Ivy and Haswell era i7s were in that price range. I hope its a good sample for you with a nice low vid and low temperatures.

You said it yourself. Your 8600k already serves your needs. There is no need for an impulse upgrade like this unless you cant scratch the upgrade itch which is totally understandable. if i were you i'd save for whatever intel is preparing next then go all out for an upgrade
True but I figured I can recoup a good amount of the cost by selling the 8600k and I won't need to purchase a new mobo down the road.

I owned a 125w Windsor athlon x2 6000 way back when so not the warmest chip I ever owned but it comes close when OC. I played around with it at 4.8ghz and 4.9ghz all cores for about an hour last night. I'll post more after I get a chance to play around with it some more.

At 4.8ghz all cores; 1.2 won't even get into the BIOS, 1.3 loads windows but is unstable. I'll have more time to play around with it this week.

in some ways a 9700k is just a 9900k with hyper threading turned off.. my 9900k runs on a very low vcore.. my 8700K would run 4.8 or 4.9 at around 1.264 vcore..

maybe you are finding out why the chip came so cheap.. hopefully not..

ps.. heat ultimately governs these things but heat is directly connected to how much voltage is needed to run the chip at any given frequency..
