Just received my msi r9 280x card and here is my impression.

I wanted to buy Asus but they were out of stock in newegg like, 4 hours after they got in, so I chose MSI which was my second choice.
I read review of this card in techpowerup as well as other tech forum and it seemed good enough.
The card looked very nice and sturdy, and installation was smooth.
Right after install I ran catzilla 720p and scored 11203.
idle temp is 35~36 and after playing arma 3 on ultra option for 3 hours the temp risen to 77, no more. I didn't update bios to the new one techpowerup reviewer posted(don't know how).
As for noice I could hear the coil buzzing noise around 40% fan speed for the first few hours, but now it's gone.
As for overclocking I'm afraid my psu isn't up for heavy oc so only oc'ed gpu to 1080 mhz.
well, that's about it. I think it's a good card for $299 and if you're upgrading from 2, 3 year old card(my previous card was 5850) it wouldn't disappoint.

Well, the card is a rebadge of a 7970GE so nothing new or groundbreaking there that needs to spoken about that hasnt been mentioned before.

congrats on the card, ive usually found that coil wine only occurs when your gpu is outputting 100's of fps.... turn on vsync and the coil wine is gone... good luck..

Compare a dual GPU to a single GPU in a benchmark?

I just ran it at 720P with my everyday settings (Single 7970) and scored 12,470 and my card is almost 2 years old.

I'm pretty sure a dual card 280x or 7970 setup would be over 20K.

Thanks for your interest, so here is an update

I've RMA'ed the card.
lol.

After a week of usage the coil whine got even more troublesome. It started to happen when fps count go over 100 fps(usually ingame menu), so I turned v-sync on and the whine stopped for a while.
However the whine reoccurred even when the v-sync was still active - and even during idle. I started to have migraine and ear ringing.
Plus there were artifacts all over when I browse the web with firefox(chrome was fine) so I figured the card must've been a defect.
One thing I did was to change PSU since it also made popping noise when gpu's in heavy load. I changed PSU to Corsair HX750, and noise from PSU disappeared, but the whine from gpu was still there.
So I sent the card back to newegg for replacement, and if the new one have the same problem I'll refund it and buy Asus one.
