Keyboard lube

i've 2 keyboards a corsair and Rog they both have sticky keys i've used contact cleaner in the past but its not doing the job any more so i think its time for some lube i've looked on line and found a few but havn't clue which is any good i'm looking for a kit because i lost my key pullers a long time ago. price as long as its not silly money im game. thanks.

well, I don´t know of a kit, but you can use silicone grease, hope it helps

You could try something like this

I used it on my first Corsair Keyboard and it worked well. Apply with a thin brush sparingly so it doesn't become too slippery.

i have some of this stuff which i brought for the motors on my teliscope mounts

SRAM Butter? I mean it's pretty lubricous and it can withstand dirt, water, extreme temperatures basically everything that happens on a keyboard.

thanks guys ill look into both. in the past ive just brought a new keyboard but i really like my ROG Strix Flare and Corsair F75 + its better for the planet to fix. i must of had them a long time because i cannot remember when i brought them they both come with a mouse and the mouses are still like brand new.

Not sure what you meant by not doing the job "any more". Dirt and contaminates will keep coming forever, so it would never be a "one-and-done" job. Also, simple wear and tear from time and usage is inevitable. With switch contacts, this typically results in the gap between the contacts (when not pressed) getting wider and that extra space allows for more dirt and grime to drift in and take up residence. So it makes sense for the need to clean becoming more frequent. It also makes sense for older contacts that have seen more use to take more effort to thoroughly clean.

Lubricants with very small, precision parts are great - in a sealed environment. But in environments where dust and other contaminates are floating around in the air, that lubricant can act as a sticky magnet. Plus, any residue (the lube) left after cleaning WILL impact electrical continuity (add resistance ) through the electrical contacts. Large, heavy duty switches with high AC voltages and amps of current are not a problem. But keyboard key switch contacts are tiny and work with low-voltage DC (5VDC) and ~100mA of current. Zero resistance, or as close to it as you can get, is best to ensure maximum conduction through the contacts.

I think I would stick with some good contact cleaner like CRC QD Electronic Cleaner or WD-40 Electrical Contact Cleaner.

Typically, the power from the spray is enough for most cleaning jobs. But if the dirt is stubborn, spray it with the contact cleaner then give it a soft scrub with a acid brush. Then spray it again to let the dirt and grime drip away. I recommend natural (boar or horse hair) bristle, acid brushes because they are basically inert - the bristles won't melt or dissolve from acids, flux, or in this case, the cleaning agents in the contact cleaners and gum up the very contacts you are trying to clean. They are stiff enough to give a nice scrubbing, but soft enough to not scratch. Plus, they clearly are inexpensive at less than $0.17 each.

thanks bill, what happeneds is over time the lube gets contamited with dirt which after a while make the keys stick contact clear clears the sticking for a short while and the time between spray becomes less and less until it removes the lube or changes it in a way which makes it sticky.

I was not criticizing. Sorry if it sounded that way. I just don't understand the point of your previous post - considering in your opening post, you said "cleaner", not lube and appeared to understand the difference since you were asking about lubricants - suggesting you've not used it before.

So your previous post explaining what happens when using lube, as I had just done, confused me.

the silicone grease should be ideal for this aplication, just don´t put to much, just to get it sliding normaly, it´s the thing to go for plastic parts lubrication
