I see nothing in the marketing documentation that says anything about communicating with anything (other than its single USB dongle), let alone each other. In fact, the mouse and keyboard communicating with each other is a new one on me. So where did you read that? Two days ago i bought myself a Logitech MK270 keyboard & mouse combo - "BIG MISTAKE" they were supposed to communicate directly with each other (nope, not happening).
For sure, even for $29.99, every keypress should be properly registered, as well as every mouse click and jester - but only the clicks and jesters the user makes. So you certainly have a legitimate complaint there. But frankly, your problem sounds much more like interference from another nearby source and not a defect or poor/cheap design. I would temporarily move the dongle to a different pair of ports - perhaps in the front of the case if currently in the back. And for sure, not in an external hub.
Still, for only $29.99 ($25 if you shop around) I would not expect stellar gaming performance even if that was the price for just the keyboard. You essentially are expecting perfection from a $15 wireless keyboard. IMO, your expectations are way too high, even without the interference problems.
Edit comment: Fixed typo.
