Laptop display input lag

System Name Acer predator Helios 300 PH315-53(2020)
Processor I7-10750H
Video Card(s) RTX 2060 Mobile
I have an acer PH315-53(2020) laptop with a 240hz display, I don’t use any external display at all but today I had the chance to use a 75hz one.
For the first time I noticed a significant input delay/lag difference between the laptop display to the external display. There is noticeable higher input delay/lag in the laptop 240hz display than the 75hz one, it’s just smoother.
For example running rocket league locked at 240FPS consistent, I notice the game is much smoother on the 75hz display rather than the 240hz internal one.
Any idea what’s causing it and how I can resolve it?

So is it input lag or is it smoothness? Because they are different things completely. Do you notice that there is a more noticeable delay in button-to-movement/action on the laptops display compared to external one? Or are you talking about stuttering or hitching?

are you going into in-game settings and making sure to change the refresh rate in-game? also make sure you right click desktop, go to display in windows settings, advanced display settings, should be a refresh drop down somewhere, make sure your laptop is actually set to run 240hz in both settings in-game and in windows settings. sometimes it doesn't default turn on.

as i said both displays are at their highest their highest refresh rate, games are locked to the best FPS i can averagely achieve.

it feels kinda like a mix of both, there is indeed felt input lag difference between the two, with the external monitor feeling smoother even tough it's refresh rate is much lower

Since it’s really hard to actually diagnose what the problem is since “feeling” is not really a measurable data point or an error code, I can only suggest you try to go through every available refresh for the integrated display and see if they “feel” different or better. Another option is clean installing NVidia’s drivers with DDU snd seeing if that changes anything since in the process the connection to display should reset, if that’s the problem.

okay i might have been mistaken about input lag, and i have used DDU many times with no change in results.
i attached a link for a clip that perfectly shows how my gameplay feels, even tough its consistent 230-240FPS and yes, my display is set to 240hz.

Are you using V-sync ? Does the laptop display have g-sync ?

I would try limiting your framerate to 75 FPS with the laptops display and see if it feels as "smooth". Right now you are comparing two very different things. You are comparing a constant 75 Hz to a varying 230 to 240 Hz. "230 to 240 Hz" is NOT "consistent". That is a varying amount. Smooth is consistent. Varying is not smooth.

i tried, it is’nt the same at all.
and even when it is varying in the external screen it still feels smoother.

If you mirror your screen to both, the laptop display is lagging behind the desktop monitor? Or are you talking about how smooth the frame rate is?

In the first case, every monitor have a different input latency (observed delay). Higher refresh rate does not automatically result in a lower input latency, although normally you should expect so. If this is the case, just forget you ever connected the external display and keep on playing. :P
