ok, so I just now hooked my laptop up to an external monitor for a bigger screen. However, once I close the lid it seems like 5-10 mins later its always locking me out. Then I have to open the lid and wake up the laptop again. It does not matter what I am doing. Last night was the first time using the setup and it was locking me out while editing a video. So its not like I was just sitting idle.

I have the settings for 'on close lid' to do nothing.
I have powered off the laptop and held for 60 seconds, supposedly flushes everything out?
I have reloaded standard BIOS, not that it was touched by my
I have set the laptop to never sleep when plugged in
For now, I have set the laptop to never shut off monitor when plugged in as well

I have gone 3 rounds with ASUS tech support and still no resolving this issue.

My setup:
ASUS ROG Zeph 14 (Win 11) connected to and LG 34WN80C-B UltraWide Monitor 34” through HDMI cable

Also, I do not have an issue if I am duplicating the displays on the laptop and monitor, however that defeats the purpose as I want to close my laptop and just work off the monitor.

Any other thoughts on this as to what to try?

EDIT 1:
Round 4 with ASUS support ... Level 1 tech support are saying apparently there is no workaround, once the laptop lid is closed the laptop will lock you out in a certain amount of time. The HMDI cord directly to the monitor does not stop it from doing so. The only work around is to hook it up to an actual dock.

I have now been escalated to level 2, response in 24-48 hours

Thank you for your patience and patronage! Our technical team has advised you must have the lid open to help expel the heat from the notebook or leave it half way open.
The notebook will know you have the lid close in a few minutes the notebook will shut down as a preventative maintenance to prevent overheating.

what kinda crap is this????

My guess would be "design" crap that is suppose to prevent stupidity damage to the product. Tbh, I don't think you want to run any kind of laptop the way you're trying to unless the manufacturer states otherwise; especially if it has an Nvidia card in it. My advice would be to just leave it open enough so that it doesn't shut down.

Check power properties

Go into device manager as well
