I just picked up this monitor today from my local Micro Center. After connecting it at home I played some 4k dark content and the backlight bleed is really bad. Particularly a couple inches above the bottom left corner. I have this right next to two 27" IPS panels, one is a Dell and the other HP where there is not nearly as much bleed. In fact it is just a dim glow around the edge where this LG panels has chunks of uneven bleed all around it. Is this typical for this monitor or did I just a a bad panel? Should I exchange for another or just return and buy something else? Attached is a pick.

It is unusually bad for a VA type, and a bit inconsistent even for IPS. I'd try at least one exchange before giving up. LG is usually better than that.

I agree to try another. You may have just got a bad one. That said, I am assuming you adjusted the contrast and brightness. Factory settings are rarely ever calibrated. They are just tested to see if the controls adjust, then left as is. Or if they are adjusted, they are adjusted to look good under the bright lights of a store interior.

If you turn down the brightness it is a bit better but don't really want to turn the brightness down that far as the monitor doesn't pop as much. I will try to exchange one time. Thanks

So I exchanged it for another one. The second monitor was just as bad. Probably a reason this is one of the lowest price IPS 32" 4k monitors. I took it back and thought about popping for the Dell U3219Q but they were sold out and I wasn't sure I wanted to spend that much. So I picked up the Dell S3221QS instead. Its not as bright as the IPS but black level is much better and the curve is kind of nice. I am happy with this one.

Nope. Its just a common LG problem, the bigger they are, the more noticeable backlight bleeding is.
I've seen this on 3 ips LG monitors I tried over the past few months. The reason why I stick with 25".
You cannot eliminate the bleeding completely, but with some fine tunning (backlight, contrast, gamma, BW levels) you can minimize it, to be barely noticeable.

Perhaps your ambient (room) lighting is too bright. You might try some "blackout curtains" on the windows.

It is in my basement. It was worse the darker the room. The monitor was garbage. Happier with the Dell VA panel
