Build:
Asus Z97 Pro WiFi
MSI GTX 970 ME
Intel i7 4790k
16gb Corsair Vengence DDR 4 ram
Corsair HX750 power supply
1tb HDD (don’t remember the model
500gb Samsung (860?) Evo SSD
**New Samsung 970 Evo NVMe M.2**

All part in the computer have been working for years. The only new part is the M2.

I was able to install the new M2 and transferred the data (including my operating system) from my ssd to the M2 using Samsung’s transfer software. For some reason, it copied the data from the ssd to the m2, but didn’t delete it from the ssd. Weird, but not a huge deal.

Here’s the issue:
The bios doesn’t recognize the M2 at all. I tried toying with a bunch of settings, but I can’t seem to figure out how to get the bios to boot from the M2 or even recognize that it’s installed. When I boot from the ssd, windows recognizes that the m2 is installed and even that it has a copy of all the data from the ssd. I tried unplugging all SATA connections, but the bios still wouldn’t recognize the M.2 at all.

My bios hasn’t been updated since I got it in 2014ish? Maybe that’s causing some sort of an issue?

Any help at all would be great.

What is it formatted as? If it's ntfs it should work.

Hit expand all to see available bios

You've probably inserted the 970 EVO in a non-bootable slot? Check the mobo's manual, back then few motherboards could boot from M.2 and even then, they usually couldn't do it if the slot was provided by a 3rd party controller.

Booting a Z97 from an M.2 was/is iffy at best, but without a bios update, and probably the sammy driver, it is/was a lost cause in almost all cases...

Been there, done that :)

Just install the newest bios & sammy driver then reboot into the bios & see if that helps. ....

Thanks for your help! Updating the bios worked for it recognize the m2. I then had to unplug the ssd and set the m2 to auto boot. Then I plugged the ssd back in and formatted it.
It all works now! Thank you!
