Main content area missing? uBlock Origin updated their filters and broke the site.

No issues here with Chrome and Ublock Origin

You say its a script but you have yet provide any proof that a script is hiding any content. The burden of proof is on you since you are the only one having this "issue". No one else does.

I think you missed post #3. Still not the point of this thread.

Point being there is a script in place that hides the content for no good reason.

Re-enable JavaScript and turn pause uBlock, does the content still disappear? If yes, disable all other addons and try again. Still disappearing?

I won't since disabling the scripts fixed it this time and in the future.

You are still not getting the problem here. Your script does nothing but hide the content. You (your script) claim(s) that uBlock broke the site and that's false, you did with your script. The content was perfectly fine when it was disabled.

It's like deleting all the pages in a book because the publishing date was off by a day. Your script seems to panic for no reason.

I don't need help. I was calling out the behavior of the site in this situation.
With ublock enabled on chrome main site works for me.

Considering the number of people who have confirmed that it's working properly, it must have something to do with your your browser and how its plugins are configured, not with TPU. I'm sorry, but if others can't reproduce the issue, then it's not as widespread as you're claiming, and considering your not even willing to help W1zz debug it, I'm calling shenanigans.

How the heck do you know? Your not even willing to help W1zz debug it. Get off your high horse and either help him out or quit your whining.

If you think it is working as intended by hiding the content for no good reason I'm done here.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out. :wtf:

The problem is W1zzard's script hiding the content whenever uBlock's filters are updated because the content is still there and uBlock didn't break anything.

It is perfectly understandable that W1zzard's script is panicking over nothing and blocks the content. Yet every single one of you is reporting the site working properly when it's been said over and over that the filters were updated. I fixed it by disabling all the scripts but it will happen again to someone else the moment uBlock's filters are updated.

The thing is that uBlock isn't breaking anything. It's W1zzard's script blocking the content.

But that’s where you are wrong, it’s not his script hiding it. Maybe you are not understanding how it all works, Ublock has filters that look at content displayed and Ublock had a issue with a filter that they admitted would hide the main content on this site.

In response to many users reporting to W1zz he generated a script that after Ublock had hidden the content (Ublock’s filter determined falsely it was an ad or other intrusive or unwanted content) the message would appear to allow the user to know they need to perform an action due to the false flag by Ublock.

If you don’t believe this is accurate, you need to do more research. I would suggest you start by merely “googling” the terms Ublock, Content Missing, and Techpowerup. For me it reveals a detailed history starting years ago where Ublock overzealously filters content, if you replace techpowerup with other sites you see they have the same issues. It’s a problem for Ublock, but not a bad one as I would rather have it be a little more aggressive than not and adding a whitelist filter is relatively easy.

@W1zzard has the patience of a saint. I don't. @Imouto, you've been given enough help. The site isn't broken. It's scripts aren't defective.

Consider your participation in this thread over.

Always curious to solve the puzzle, and if he does have an ongoing issue, considering our millions of visitors, there could be more who are affected, but don't have an account/don't speak the language/are too lazy/etc.

you need to embrace advertising more imo, dealing with little shit like this and as you just said, millions of visitors, more ads, make that money captain, wouldn't bother me any as I know you will vet the ads code well.

#thecoalition to see W1zzard driving a Tesla Model S Plaid edition like a baller

This site is for you, I want you to enjoy the site, business is great and booming. That's also why we only have in-house ads, that don't track you, we don't sell your info, everything loads fast etc.

I can confirm that I don't have this issue. Just enabled uBlock Origin on this website to test it. I manually updated my filters yesterday.

Though this is literally the only website that has what I'd consider acceptable ads, so I usually keep uBO off. Gotta support the awesome stuff that W1zz does.

EDIT: I think I found the script for the notification while looking through the source code of the main page.

HTML:
<script>
function abtest() {
var el=$('.pagw');
if ((el.length!=1) || (el.filter(':visible').length!=1)) {
                    $('body').prepend('<div style="padding: 7px;background: #15aa80;color: white;font-weight: bold;font-size: 13px; position: relative; z-index: 10; position: sticky; top:0" class="ab-notice">Main content area missing? uBlock Origin updated their filters and broke the site.</div>');
}
}
loadjs.ready(['jquery'], function() {
abtest();
setTimeout(abtest, 1000);
setTimeout(abtest, 2000);
setTimeout(abtest, 5000);
});
        </script>

I'm a coding/scripting noob, so it'd take me a while to figure out what all is happening here, but it doesn't look like it's purposefully hiding content.

Ublock breaks the site on Firefox, for me anyway. I'm whitelistinhng it anyway so no big worries.

I defended TPU on ublock reddit sometime last year, I have always had the opinion if ad's are done in a non abusive way on a site I gain knowledge from, then i am ok with it.

Have had tpucdn whitelisted for ages now (which shows the ad at the top).

What the hell?

:|

These people need to learn how to write a freaking commit message.

This isn't the easylist filters again is it?

I have that disabled since the last round of issues, and my frontpage is working fine

@Imouto that warning is because the last time this happened, people had issues on the forums too.

It helps people fix the issue faster, not some hidden evil to display more ads.

uBlock uAssets filters, haven't had any issues with Easylist for a long time

I updated our detection to show the green warning bar, so that people are aware what's happening

Here's the commit

Code:
/\/review\/[0-9a-z\-]{1,20}\/images\/(?!logo|title)[a-z0-9\-\_]+\.jpg/$image,3p,domain=techpowerup.com
Kill all images except for title and logo, good job

mostly agree here, esp since tpu has like, the best & most awesome ads on the entire fucking internet (ontopic, unobstrusive, non-annoying and non-tracking, and sometimes even hilarious), but i can also see how such aggressive behavior might also piss off some people (the OP amongst them, they just never managed to actually spell it out)
