It would be easy for me to just simply say I love the game.. because I do..lol..
Being a huge fan of ME1 I may be predisposed to conclusions.
So I'll break it down.
I'll say the bad stuff first:
1. controls, great for me using ps3 controller and pinnacle profiler, not so great if your using a mouse and keyboard.
Scanning planets = carpal tunnel... XD
Some of the new controls are an obvious port from the xbox.
Mouse sensitivity is to high, try changing it in windows if you come to the same conclusion.
2. They took out crouch, bad idea..
..
But implemented a system of using things for cover.
It doesn't feel 100% right to me, but it's ok.
3. Some of the textures, like on the holographic meetings with the counsel look bad.
I just had my first meeting with them and they all looked way to bright and fuzzy, also lacked the definition they had in the first one.
4. When scanning planets, as you revolve around them, the rest of the solar systems planets that are nearby should come into view, but they do not.
If they had come into view it would of added a huge effect to this game.
Now stuff that could go both ways, either good or bad:
1. No more free roam on planets that lacked definition anyway and all seemed to me to just be filler in the first one.
I call it a good thing.
They have replaced that with a nice scanning system and localized areas of interest you can land at.
Which look much better than the textures they could use on an entire planet scale.
2. The diversity of weapons/gear has been replaced with an upgrade and research system dependent on the minerals you mine from planets.
Me, I say it's also a good thing, as micro management of the weapons and armor was a real pain in the ass in the first one.
Simplifying it in a more broadened manner made it seems more RPG to me than
"hey you hit level 40, so here comes some level 40 stuff".
3. I dislike the mission complete music and general feel.
It seems forced and idk, just rubs me wrong maybe, preference thing I guess. XD
It's over so fast, it really doesn't matter anyway though.
4. No more Mako.
, not that I've seen yet anyway but I'm pretty sure they tossed it out for a landing craft you cannot pilot.
I just miss the Mako is all I guess.
Good times.
Good things:
1. Looks spectacular.
2. the storyline is just top notch, I am absolutely loving it.
3. the Cgi is gorgeous.
4. The characters in your team have such deep personalities it really stands out.
Everyone in Me 1 was bland in comparison, excluding Wrex
.
5. Even scanning, which could be tedious is made at least enjoyable thanks to a very intuitive system.
Your scanner picks up minerals, causing spikes relating to each particular mineral.
launch a probe and wala.
6. Quite a few planets have hidden areas on them to explore.
The locations aren't the same old " a tiny shack with some garbage on the ground" system anymore.
They pop up from time to time, giving you a nice break from the "almost" mundane task of scanning.
which I actually enjoy..lol
7. I'm sure anyone who has looked into it, has heard about the renegade/paragon changes.
Nice how it pops up from time to time in the game, kind of makes ya jump in your seat when ya don't expect it.
Nice thing about it is that it really allows the player to make some very dramatic changes in the way he/she is perceived.
Not to mention the potential impact said reactions could lead to in ME 3.
Your decisions actually matter now in the long term, gotta love it.
left click = renegade action.
right click = paragon action.
I think..lol
you'll see the mouse icon come up when one of these "special" scenes happens.
Be careful what you choose, I have a feeling these ones are big.
Just because it says you can do a renegade thing, doesn't mean you should.
Seriously, you might end up punching an old lady right in the face with this game..lol
8. In short, I love it.
I call it a very nice advancement from the first.
Few thing's I'd of done a bit different, but it is extremely enjoyable.
When I'm done with it, I will no doubt love it as much, or more, than ME 1.
9. The game runs smoother in general than ME 1 did.
Longer loads to get the textures out of the way was a good idea.
I run this game all maxed with an 8800 gtx, see my specs.
Runs like a charm.
I play virtually no games twice, I beat them and they sit and gather dust..lol
ME 1.. 5 times, easy.
ME 2... wait and see.
