Maximum core speeds i5 6500

I would like to know what the maximum core speeds are of the i5 6500.
I know it runs at 3.6Ghz turbo on 1 core, I just wonder what the maximum speed is of all 4 cores at the same time? Did not find it yet on google...

Yes I understand that, but what is the maximum speed for 4 cores at at the same speed, I know it will run 3.6 at only 1 core.

Yeah, but look at the 6600 and 6600k. I see zero difference between the cores able to be used in either of them at the same frequency. The highest you can clock either of them and still have all 4 cores is 3.6GHz.

So while the K may be unlocked, according to Intel's info, by the time you exceed 3.9, you are operating on one core. I'm actually inclined to go the exact opposite and say the only argument is to NOT get an unlocked CPU if you want all your cores.

You are not reading it wrong. That info is why I bought a 6600 non-K for my MSI NIghtblade MI2. I got the same Turbo speeds as the 6600K, but without OC, for a system that doesn't support OC anyway.

I'm not sure about that, maybe a k processor bumps up the other cores as well while overclocking, just 1 core at max overclock?

That's how the boost works gents.. K or not. The last 'boost bin' is single core, the previous two cores, etc.

6600-non-k and K differ only in base clockspeed (3.3 GHz vs 3.5 GHz), and the K having unlocked multipliers. The K chip is also a 91W chip, while the non-K is a 65W chip. Part of the lower rating is the lowered base clockspeed, from my own testing with these chips. It might also be worth noting that the 6700 non-K (4 ghz max, 3.4 GHz base, 65W) and 6700K (4.2 GHz max, 4.0 GHz base, 91W) differ a lot more than their i5 counterparts, so when it comes to value for your money, the i5 locked chip offers a bit more, in my books, so I chose the i5-6600 instead of the i7-6700.

You are not reading it wrong.

Not completely wrong, but I'm thinking you don't quite understand it completely, and I'm not sure I do either!
That's the default stock turbo boost (TB) clocks. If the CPU gets work to do that only needs one core, it will TB up to 3.9. (this is also part of the "race to idle" power saving strategy) If the work requires 2 cores, up to 3.8. 3 cores, 3.7, 4 cores to 3.6. (this is were I'm confused - when does a CPU ever run at rated speed?) With a "K" CPU, those multipliers are unlocked. One of the "boosts" that some motherboards do (or have done) to CPU's is to make all cores ramp up to the same max turbo. This is the very simple OC'ing method with "K" CPU's - just bump the max TB values. So, those listed values on that chart do not limit the clocks on an OC'd CPU.

I have no experience with 6th gen chips but with a 4970K, when I set each individual core multi to 47, all four cores are hitting that (according to HW Mon).

Not the same deal with Skylake?

It's the same for "K" chips, yes, but non-K chips, which are locked, they do not have all the same benefits of multiplier adjustment without "mod" BIOSes. Skylake is pretty much the most locked chip of all of Intel's CPUs, and I do not see that as a bad thing.

my 4790K is set at a 47 multiplier.. intel turbo boost technology is turned off but speed stepping is still active.. the chip idles at 800 mhz and boosts to 4700 mhz on all cores under load..

at default it turbos to 4.4 with one core active .. 4.3 with 2 cores active .. and 4.2 with 3 or more cores active..

Locked chips are 65W variety, unlocked are 91W. Those directly relate to power targets that affect multiplier scaling/throttling. By locking the non-K SKUs, they tightly control quality in ways that would not be possible if the chips were unlocked. Do also keep in mind that these are "Mainstream" CPUs, not "Enthusiast" CPUs. As a part-time system builder, I appreciate the tighter quality controls possible by Intel locking the majority of these mainstream CPUs.

You'll also note that from my experience, Skylake has been the most problematic for "dead" or "broken" "K-SKU" chips ever. I want to make money building PCs, and having to service or provide support to a system is something I never want to do. I know my stance may not the the "norm", but at least I'm honest about it.

We've had a handful of users here reporting issues, I had a couple myself, and our cooler reviewer got a dead chip too. All of them were retail chips when the supply was scarce. There were also reviews stating that Skylake OC wasn't that great, and that users should expect lower OCs, while I reported that clocking was the same... and now that the chips are widely available, some reviewers have stated that OC has improved.

I'm more than just a bit crazy, so I tend to not look at things like other people may. ROFL. I appreciate memory OC, for a start, yet will never suggest that anyone buy memory expecting OC'ing, and barely touch on OC in my reviews. I'd even hazard to say that my "dare to be different" is part of my success. (Of course, now I'm just blowing hot wind while I am waiting for OS/benchmark install to complete on a rather tasty Biostar board...)

Why does the turbo speed not work when playing GTA V?
My CPU only runs up to 3.27GHz with 75~80% load while playing.
(The extra 700MHz from stock 3.2GHz is from the memory XMP profile)

Powerplan is set to high performance.
On the desktop still at high performance powerplan the CPU runs at 3.49GHz max idle.
