MB doesn't identify my sata

Okay, I am German, so my Englisch is bad, but until no one was able to help my.

I got the problem, that my new motherboard isn't able to identify my sata (old board didn't have sata).

I have:
SATA - Western Digital WD800JD-00LSA0 that won't work, but any other harddrive won'T work, too, that is sata

in my pc is already an ide-harddrive, that properly works

mainboard is an "MSI MS-6702-E (v1.0)"

it only has 2 sata-slots, and I can't do anything

the sata works properly and the cable are well, too

the manual tells about options, that I can configure the sata-controller in the "Onboard PCI Controller", but I don't have the options:

so what I first want to know: does the mainboard have hidden options? how can I activate them?

any other help would be good, too, but I think I have forgotten other details, too.

some mother board manuals cover options for several different models based on the same design but some have or dont have certain components.

you could alsways try a bios update and see.

Hmm, I see. But Bios-Update isn't something I would do again cause the last one didn't work out.

But, the mainboard should be able to get a sata running, when it has sata-slots? the hdd is as ols as the board, so I don't think there should be a problem or?

If you got the bios set to RAID, then bios want see the HD's. In some motherboard. Just change it to IDE. You should be fine then

It doesn't detect the HDD in bios - and i can't configure sata or raid -> there is no option: I can only switch on pata- and sata-controller, then there is nothing more available.

just like in the picture I posted, I don't have any further options. this sata-raid-option I don't have

is the hdd spinning up when you boot? have you tried connecting the hdd to different ports? have you tried removing the ide hdd and trying only the sata hdd?

the hdd is moving, when it's connected, but spinning up I don't thing, when I I understand correctly. At least the hdd works well on other boards

what do you mean with trying to connect to different ports?

I have tried using only the sata, but it didn't work, I also tried other sata, but they didn't work, too

I have an old MB that wouldn't detect my SATA HD, so I wasn't able to install WinXP.
My HD is a seagate, did some searching and found out the I had to have a software on a diskette in the computer before I boot. The software is for the MB to detect the SATA to the HD. When you are booting up from the diskette it would be asking if you need to install some mass ... something. Anyways you probably need that software to boot from, I'm sorry I don't remember the site I got it from, might be from SATA. Right now I'm at work so I can't check the name of the software, I'll check when I get home if you still need it.

Edit: I just release, if the HD is new doesn't he have format it under computer managemant-disk management?

@Solaris17

how do I clear the cmos? I hardly know what this is.

There is a jumper, that I need to set, the manufacturer of the hdd writes, that the wd800 doesn't support something, that this board has, so I have tom jumper it, what I have already done - or do you mean something else? Cause the hdd say it doesn't need to be jumpered in the normal way

Something like that I already tried, but I don't know if it was correct or the correct patch.

I got the drivers on this page, but I don't presisly know, do you know which one should it be?

You need to have sata drivers on a floppy. Insert your XP disk and press F8 when it asks. It should then load your sata drivers and you should be good.

hi!
since you have an old mainboard, which i think can't handle sataII, have you set any jumper on your harddisk to reduce the speed to sataI? i think my samsung disks have this feature , so may your disk has this too?

okay, i pulled the battery out and it didn't work

furthermore I downloaded the "VIA VT8237(R) SATA RAID Driver (For floppy driver)"
and installed it when usind xp-setup, but this didn't work, too - BUT the Controller I installed, was a "SataII XP Promise Controller" could it be, that this was the wrong one, because I think this mainboard had sata1

you might want to put a jumper on your hdd to limit it to sata I operation only.

sry, I take so long to reply.

Either way, I have decided that I give up on this, it took me way to much time, to get my both pc running, I don't want to spent more. As it is now, the pc is still good enough.

Thank you all very much for you help :)

In your BIOS options there should be something about configuring the drives. Set the option "Configure SATA drives as" and set it to IDE. Also (just a basic thing), have you got the power plugged into the HDD's?
