The current No. 3 global memory maker Micron Technology is said to enter the graphics memory business, fighting against Samsung and Hynix. Micron will make the chips mainly for NVIDIA and ATI video cards.
"Our upcoming 50-nanometer technology is very competitive when it comes to power consumption and performance," Robert Feurle, Micron's VP of DRAM marketing said. "I think it's a good point in time to begin discussions with big enablers NVIDIA and AMD and get started with some design-ins," Feurle said. "No decision has been made yet but we're looking into that very seriously," he added.
Plans are to start production of GDDR3 memory with speeds of 1600 MHz and up. After that a possible transition to GDDR5 manufacturing will be made. Unfortunately, that's all there is to know for now, Micron is mum on all other details.

Yeah I hope for the best for them, they had awesome memory to OC.
 
Should actually work out for the better for them. Cant wait to see cards start rolling out with their memory, Ocs on it should make W1zz very happy when reviewing cards.
 
We've got a micron plant about 10 miles from my house. The place is HUGE, with pipes and towers and whatnot. Really cool to look at. To think that a memory chip could make a trip from there, all the way out to some part of the world where they assemble the video card, then come all the way back to my house is kind of interesting to think about.

Micron D9s were awesome. Imagine memory like that on a video card. :D
 
hey they should buy up the gddr5 licensing from qimonda or if they can swing the debt buy the whole thing.
 
There as trusted and every bit as good as Samsung i my self hope they make it. Pretty sure they will.
 
I just hope they don't die like my 6 sticks of Ballistix died :)
I still need to send those back for replacement come to think of it....

My D9's still alive just don't over volt them.
