Wonder how much it will cost.
Maybe it will be included with Game Pass. ;)

Personally I see no need whatsoever for a new OS. Windows has always offered everything I needed, and 10 is the most stable version of them all. I had to reinstall previous Windows systems after a while, even Win 7, but 10 never breaks for me. Maybe because the big updates actually refresh the installation (or at least they used to).

I absolutely do not want the UI to change in a significant way. And I doubt anyone would after using Windows systems for 20+ years (Win 8 proved that). Any new features could easily be integrated into the system, but a completely new version will only cause compatibility issues, as it always has done.

How? Richard Stallman's brain would to be ten days dead for him to allow that kind of poison on Linux. And for many in the Linux community, Richard Stallman might as well be the Linux god.
Erm, developers of apps where DRM actually matters (e.g. web browsers) have not given a d***n about what RMS says for years. They do not even use the toolchain GNU maintains anyway, given the rising use of Rust and-what-not for such applications. The rest of a Linux system is often still partially tied to GNU but this is changing as well.

Please God, let the new Windows Service Pack bring back DirectSound3D or at least any form of 3D sound Hardware Acceleration. I miss playing Unreal, Thief of FEAR... More than 20 years later, and the sound in games is still pure trash junk compared to the former.....

That's a cluttered mess.
That's an opinion.

I will show you mine for giggles, you will hate it. :)

I rather have everything here than trawl through the pages on the settings applet.

Love it! Wonderful! Now tell us all how you achieved this?

Please God, let the new Windows Service Pack bring back DirectSound3D or at least any form of 3D sound Hardware Acceleration.
YES, THIS! Microsoft has their heads up their bum too far to do something intelligent like this, but we can wish...

Let's let them speak for themselves...
Let's just say I have a few commands that let me forget about paying for Windows but that's a discussion not for this forum.

Jeez, so many linux haters in here. If you just took the time to learn it.... Nevermind. I used windows since 3.0. You remember that? Bet not. I used windows NT4, windows 2000, XP, 7, 8.1... and then comes this piece of ... called windows 10. I said I'd switch to linux before using it... and guess what? That's what I did. I will never install a copy of win10 on my system, ever. I actually started with DOS 3.2... remember that? We used to do just fine without windows. And we'll do just fine without it from now on.
Linux is jack shit at recreating my workflow, and will probably be for a long time.

And I'd rather not have two installations for two use cases. I don't wanna have to switch OS just to play a game or use a program that doesn't work on Linux. Just one or go home.

The privacy """issues""" in Windows 10, especially after taking the time to configure the OS (which many people don't bother doing, then complain later), are so minimal that I haven't even taken into consideration a less "invasive" OS -- the biggest pro of Windows is letting me set up my workflow and programs in less than 2 hours on a fresh installation, whereas it would take ages to do it on Linux with it not even being possible at the end. You are delusional if you think you're completely safe on Linux in the privacy department. Seriously, are you people still living in 2015 to keep associating 10 with "spyware and shit telemetry"?

Yes, each OS has their use cases, and I can see a lot of advantages to Linux, but for me personally? Nah. Too much tinkering with no reward. Now if the Linux elitists would learn not to shove their OS in other people's faces whenever an OS discussion is brought up, that'd be G R E A T. My biggest pet peeve after Win 7 elitists.

Whatever, getting bored of 10, and 8.1 and 7 are antique relics belonging in a museum. Whoever's still using them should get a reality check.
It depends on what your needs are. 8.1 is the last one to reliably play drm-protected games on CD/DVD. Surprisingly there are a fair number of games not digitized and only on CD or DVD. That’s a good reason to keep an 8.1 system, and why I have one for one of my rigs. No reality check needed from your opinionated statement, just a desire to play what MS intentionally locked out of 10.

That's a good use case, but running either as a daily driver (which was what I meant)? Seek help.

Found a Linux hater right here? Thanks for the entertaining post, at least it made my day. :D

You are implying us users who complain about intrusive telemetry and privacy problems are ignorant and yet you fail notice the services that are running by default?:shadedshu:
Okay, noticed. Looks like the exact same thing NVIDIA drivers and a handful of other installers dump in there.

Also got rid of them during the aforementioned less than 2 hour session of configuring my OS, something nobody ever does apparently. Still less time spent on disabling that than trying to get one or two critical programs I need running on Linux...

Amazing... but does anyone know how it differs from Windows 10?
The styling is the first difference. It's more rounded and organic. There also seems to be more detail in the UI elements. Based on those screen shots, it looks like a visually more rich experience, not at all the childish BS we've been dealing with since Windows 8...

New Windows - new DirectX!
So, what about a new DirectX 13? What will bring in the innovation of graphics? I hope RTX 2000, 3000 and Radeon RX 6000 will have full support.

After being too lazy to clean-up Windows 10 for 3 years, i gave it a try.

At first i have to work off yellow bangs in device manager...

EDIT: had to re-install
  • NVIDIA GeForce
  • Intel chipset INF
  • Intel dynamic tuning manager
  • Intel MEI driver which does not like my laptop for some reason downgraded to NULL HECI 0.0.0.1
