Microsoft Confirms Upcoming "Game Mode" on Windows 10 "Creators" Update

My thoughts as well.
Can't wait to see your reactions once it gets tested :) I could bet performance difference will be within margin of error unless you're gaming and rendering videos at the same time or have gazillion apps running in the background.

Is it just me or does Microsoft seems more desperate than ever trying to bring us or make us go to Windows 10. o_O

1. DX12 comes with free fairy dust
2. Free Windows 10
3. Windows 7 forced updates to Windows 10
4. What's next make Trump give a executive order for us to upgrade :banghead:

Someone out there please make a new intuitive, gaming friendly operating system I beg you :respect:

SteamOS

The pointless whine here... can we have ANY news about W10 where you don't go into privacy and smartass memes?

The whine on privacy isn't pointless, something that gets lost in much of the pointless other uproar against Windows 10. It's probably the chief legitimate complaint.

The "smartass memes" don't help any either, I'm with you there.

I really hope I do not have to list the reasons privacy is not just something criminals seek.

So much hate in here. I thought this was a tech forum... All I see is mimimi and salty users clinging to outdated software.

Good to see microsoft giving us gamers some love :)
I had no idea we needed more love. I assume this will show more benefits to lower spec pcs with a bunch going on? It will be interesting to see benchmarks across a variety of games....

You have a valid point, but that isn't what this thread is about.

I have no time to really play in depth, let alone record my shit and maybe watch it later or upload it for poor suckers to watch it. Everything related to "multimedia" and "share" and "social" is totally overrated and killing our productivity be it education or working.

Buy some RAM etc and you have a gaming monster pc.

I can't wait to never need or want to turn this on. Clearly this is for the weaker systems to scrape ever bit of power possible and that ain't me.

The whine is strong in this thread. = most of you all

You know that if Microsoft wanted to shut down Windows 7 tomorrow... THEY HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO DO IT!

You do not own Windows 7, you own the right to use it. They could force you to upgrade to Windows 10 in a press of a button. Try readying the ELUA that you just blindly click "Next" and "I agree" to the next time you load a new copy of Windows 7.

so really you should thank them daily that they allow you to keep using Windows 7 and stop whining about W10. You don't like 10, then this thread wasn't for you... /thread

I have been on Win10 from day one and all my systems are, I am a sucker for latest and greatest and I do not see Windows 7 to be anything other than old. I have a hard time when I have to work on Windows 7 machines at work or for clients.

I remember all these same exact whiners when WinXP was being pushed out... all those same people are now on the Win7 fix and you all are waiting tell Windows 11 before they move to W10? because by then W7 will be no more as WinXP is no more.

Haha the stupid sharing hype even kills gaming man. Days after the release of whatever game you have video walkthroughs and spoilers flying around the world like nobody's business and if you don't tag along in that 'youre living under a rock' in the eyes of the 'social' gamer. Within a week after patches or game tweaks you see 'the new meta' which kills creativity in any competitive environment too.

I'm afraid though that it won't go away, because people just love attention.

About this 'Game Mode'... it's a solution for a problem MS created for itself. You can also disable the majority of background services yourself, all they do is add some buttons to click for you in config panel. I really don't see how we should applaud MS for solving its own problems. They market this like its the holy grail for gaming on Windows but my games were running more than fine as they were.

I would give them bonus points if they could remove that ugly Xbox logo because I don't ever want to have anything to do with that ridiculous ecosystem where sheep pay for online and drool over a console with five exclusives, shitty hardware and an upgrade path giving it all the disadvantages of a PC combined with all the disadvantages of a console.

MS and gaming... it's like Romeo and Juliet.

I cant wait to never enable this.

I do wonder how long people will wail on the privacy thing. Anyone remember the uproar over the backdoors Intel Management Engine and AMD Platform Security Processor? And how often do we hear about them now?

Why do you have such a problem with people who have a problem with privacy intrusion? Just because you don't feel violated doesn't mean everyone else should see it your way.

You would do well to realize that you are being naive and quite uneducated when it comes to personal rights and privacy.

Hate towards the unchecked checkbox? Sure, why not.
Vast majority of users will surely benefit from this since they have gazzillion processes, services and tray bar apps ... the rest of us have been hand picking our services, turning off scheduled tasks, adjusting process priorities and core affinities since win 2000, I wonder if this game mode does anything beside that ... and regarding the steady frame rate, how long has it been since RivaTuner frame limiter was introduced (don't know why but vsync + 60Hz monitor is stutterfest compared to the RiveTuner 60fps limiter + vsync + 60Hz monitor)

I still don't understand.. Why isn't the OS doing this in the first place?

I still don't understand.. Why isn't the OS doing this in the first place?

really? I think I would hate an OS that does that. I classify this kind of thing with that AMD and nvidia auto optimize crap. Want us to shut down random system processes? awesome mind if we driver level disable AA because we have a cookie cutter notion what what that 980TI can handle? Done.

On the face of it I'm all for more performance but can see this disabling background processes and breaking monitoring and overlay programs like afterburner etc.

So, I guess no one remembers the snake oil that was Performance/Game boosting software..

Call me cynical but i think this "game mode" is designed purely to elevate their own uwp games and windows store platform above the likes of Steam, GOG and Origin. The fact that game mode will work better with uwp say's it all... This is their way of taking as many costumers from the other platforms as they can and i'm sure it will be reflected in any future "games run better on windows store" advertising.
