We've been over this time and again. No there isn't. I get that you don't like Java but please quit that old song of actually coding in it's coding style having jack to do with it's performance issues, or lack thereof.
It's not difficult to do a comparison. :p

Unsigned ints were introduced with Java 8 besides even if that were true. Which is nearly EOL by now...
Which debuted in 2014, five years after Minecraft made its public debut and too late to bother fixing it when, by that point, 90% of the effort went into porting to other platforms...and none of them use JVM.

Even a similar game, Rising World, made on JVM, has scrapped future development on JVM in favor of Unity. Video games on JVM are a rare breed for a reason.

Even Microsoft and NVIDIA overlooked the JVM version in favor of the UWP version because NVIDIA has no intention of supporting RTX on OpenGL.

I don´t get all the hate, no one is forcing people to play with Ray Tracing on.

Amazing how we got to the point of criticizing game improvements, just because the order of the day is bash everything Nvidia related.

Sad times indeed...

Yes, it is sad that the 99% of paid customers of this game have spent the last 2 years looking forward to the new graphics pack, which was dumped in favour of taking nGreedias money, and instead enable a feature that .1% of customers might be able to play at an acceptable framerate.

Sad times indeed...

RTX wings spreading :) Quake 2 a game from over a decade (or even more) Minecraft now (considering people use rx550 or 1050 to play it). I'm sure buying RTX card like 2060 will help.
Somebody mentioned here, gaming improvement? sure RTX is an improvement but seriously? games from over a decade? Minecraft? is this the sort of improvement we are looking for? What's next Duke Nuke'em 3D RTX? or maybe Carmageddon RTX? I appreciate enthusiasm of some members but I don't think this is what people are expecting from RTX. It's a nice stuff but I don't want to play games from my childhood, not necessarily ful 60FPS and a high price for a graphics card.

I'm not surprised to see Nvidia promoting coverage of RTX ray tracing on this game. Mine Craft is the best selling video game of all time. So far it's sold 176 million copies. It finally surpassed Tetris as number one best selling video game. I've never played Mine Craft but I probably should some day.

From what I've seen so far with Minecraft, it is more like a game for kids to develop skills, think, creating structures etc. Although I might not be completely right.

BTW. No wonder this is the most selling game. All kids want to play and this game is designed for them. Not all adults play so the 176mln copies is justified.

I thought you were complaining about the JVM.

Video games on JVM are a rare breed for a reason.

The reason is abatraction of the hardware layer, nothing to do with unsigned ints. And your complaint was far more general than that.

Couldn't be because of the historic MS hatred of Java...

This I don't disagree with but... that wasn't the point either.

J2EE has its pros and cons, like any language.
It's easy to learn up to a quite high level, but when you hit a big fat software (like a game like minecraft is), you have a lot of bug, not even coming from your code.
On the other hand, you can easily catch errors (while it's quite more painful in C++).
You have LWT now but it's quite limited if you don't start with it (like calculating chunks not visible on other threads).
And the worst part : memory. Even with the new GC, it's still very unstable and fragile (worse on kafka/camel servers).

C++ is more difficult to learn, and even more to master.
You have far more advanced possibilities for years, but every mistake you make is something you'll regret for long.
Memory isn't a problem since you are the master of memory usage. Hard job still.

That's why Minecraft is hitting a wall on every damn computer : JRE can run on any system but has on the counterpart, a lot of limitations.
Try to do a multiple inheritance (native not emulated with 5 objects) in Java when Minecraft was created ! Now in Java 8 it's possible, but just realize how late it is !

I use Java every day, it's pretty damn powerful for quick and efficient code.
But I've done some with a huge stack like Liferay, and it's quite awful ...

From what I've seen so far with Minecraft, it is more like a game for kids to develop skills, think, creating structures etc. Although I might not be completely right.

Can my PC run Minecraft, said no one ever. I don't care if they sold fifty billion copies of this game there were games in 1995 that looked better than this, why polish a turd?

Different things for different people. It this your way to tell me that a lot of adults play Minecraft? If this relaxes you that is good for you. I relax with a bourbon in my hand watching water waves on my porch :)

That's a good question. Microsoft, care to chime in?? I mean, you gave us Windows 8, then 8.1 and now we have 10. You are the masters of polishing turds, who better to ask...
I don't want to bust anyone's bubble but I remember games that would bring way more joy just by playing them, then just watch cool graphics. Games may look nice now but the joy of playing them is sometimes zero. You install a game see it, say cool and you move on to a next thing forgetting about the one.
Why polish a turd? Because it sells in millions? Cash is the most important thing for companies so no shock for me here.

Thanks for two people quoting my "why polish a turd" phrase, it's one of my favorite cliche's I wish I could say I invented it but it never gets old despite it's archaic background. Back on topic: I was trying to

be a little funny and use that phrase for the aforementioned reason (just to use it) but also I did have a point, I do get the idea of playing games for fun and how graphically advanced it is means diddly squat,

it's all about being enjoyable. However that aside, what I was getting at is why take a game that graphically is designed to look 25 years old and try to give it "high end" effects? It just seems VERY counter

intuitive to me. Not sure if mods care if I double space but I'm starting to do that in emails etc because my replies tend to be long and/or very dense with verbiage and meaning is often easily missed or

skipped over if I don't double space it.

Use realistic texture packs(128*128 or 256*256) and try it ! It's not RT, it's RT+texture packs which is interesting.
You will see the game as it should be.

The game is in 16*16 for each texture, but there is a very used mod to go on 32*32 which is a hug progress and still can be used on small configurations.

Minecraft might be a perfect start for ray tracing, as it's not a fast paced shooter, so you have time to appreciate the effects, and it's a simplistic game so maybe it has a chance of performance not totally tanking.

I get it. At the first glance it may have been stupid to have a game which looks like 25 years old and trying new features on it especially like Ray Tracing. Look at this the other way. Basically games looking like 25 years old can fully support Ray tracing with a decent FPS. The other aspect is, since this game has so many followers, it would be nice to get some improvement or some add-ons in the game making it better looking while playing.
The totally different aspect is, NV and MS made an agreement (payed or not payed, don't care) to use Ray tracing in the game to make it look better, meantime NV will sell more cards. With all the hypes wrapped around it this is not really surprising nor astonishing to me.
