mixing ram

I know this has been asked a lot, But I just bought

And i already have 1 stick of

Is this alright to use with out issues Most of the major things look the same but with a few differences. So i thought i should ask you guys what you think.. Thanks in advance..

if compatible with motherboard the worst thing that could happen is that the system will run at lower memory clocks according memory profiles... so if work will worl at the lowest timings and freqs there...

im fairly certain they'll be fine. Ive mixed far more different Ram than those.

im fairly certain they'll be fine. Ive mixed far more different Ram than those.

These is still risk involved, however mixing like brand and spec ram doesn't have the issues as like mixing corsair with kingston etc. Most boards will tune to weaker spec ram. My rig I can add a set of trident 2400 along side the ripjaws x and the ripjaws x will run at same timings and voltage as the trident.

If the machine starts to bsod. Return the stick you got for another ripjaws.

Ok ya im getting BSOD when copying files to my new Hard drive, I just installed... so much for that i guess owell

My daughters case has corsair 8 GB.and Kingston 8 GB works perfectly fine One is 1600 MHz the other is 1866 MHz I just down ClockZ to the 1600 MHz frequency

However I do recognize the potential for incompatibility being that there's so many possibilities for just that

I'll tell you one thing, personally I wouldn't buy mismatched ram.

Because of the headache and the possibility for failure is high. But since I got several sticks of ram donated I figured what the hell I'll try it and boom, it worked fine.

ive mixed ram on several builds as i upgrade them over time. brands, speeds, capacities. most times they will run fine at the lowest specs supported by all sticks.. ymmv of course.

run memtest86+ (think thats the best one, download the .iso, boot and run it) for a few hours to overnight be sure.

not recommended though, as naturally the best performance will be with matched sets. buy them all at once, as even same brand/types sometimes differ in the lots over time.
