Is that extra power for the mobo? or does the mobo provide power to something?

The board was developed before 6-pin came out. Yes you can use a 4 pin to 6 pin adapter. But, even then, for max performance you should use a single rail PSU with the right amount of amps.

yeh with some graphics card they need 2 6 pin connecters and some of them come with a extra molex to 6 pin connecter , such as EVGA cards i think so u could use that as a molex to 6 pin connecter instead of pulling a PSU molex plug

Three reply's and all so very wrong... :twitch:

By PCIe 1.1a ATX motherboard specification this particular ATX4P1 power plug is a complementary power supply for devices plugged in PCIe expansion slots.

It's NOT MEANT to be an output!

My 939 DFI has the same plug on it and from what I remember reading at DYI-street Largon is right on the money with this one. As they said at DIY...The mobo is too power hungry as it is and the addition of "extras" required this type of solution!

for the love of all things metal its a power input not output, extra power for pci-e bus for cards that don't have power connector inputs on them like if you where to sli 2 7600's to make sure theres enough power supplied to the pci-e bus

damn im still using agp and i know that wtf is with all the ppl posting wrong info seriously if you aint sure dont post, when ppl ask for info they ask because they arnt sure if u aint sure why post and cause more confusion damn

I'm surprised how many people don't know what it is...it's been on every motherboard I've had since 939 first had PCI-E. It's even on my current motherboard.

You all SHOULD have this connected, otherwise you will have problems with any expansion cards you have...
