Yes, doubling bus width means doubling bandwidth. Normally APUs need more bandwidth than a regular CPU because it shares it with the GPU part. People that have these new APUs buy high freq memory and OC it. The gain is almost linear, which is a clear sign that it needs more bandwidth.

As in it scales very well and that increased memory bandwidth results in almost consistent improvements in frame rate per a given increase in memory bandwidth.

Simple: Dual-channel gives you more bandwidth and GPUs like bandwidth.

The CPU performance won't increase very much with dual channel ram but the graphics core like Aquinus said loves bandwidth and it will really help there.

Basically a 10% increase in memory bandwidth means a 10% increase in graphics performance. So doubling the memory bandwidth would be a 100% increase, so you're looking at a 100% increase in graphic performance.
