Modding my 4870 Bios - Some Questions

Uninstalling drivers is not needed. I never had any problems with it.

Why avoiding the software approach if you will keep your warrenty. A not orginal bios on your graphics card will void your warrenty.

Well all the better guides say to uninstall the drivers and fan software.

I usually unstall the drivers but one time i forgot and the whole flashing time took much longer (about 4X)to complete and my screen froze up like something was interfereing. Without the drivers/software, flashing is fast and clean.

So ye it will work but theres much bigger chance of problems with the drivers/software installed. And given that this guy has some problems its a good idea to uninstall them.

I only uninstall a driver when changing to a other videocard . So long it is the same videocard with the same bios (modded or not), you can flash it without uninstalling the drivers.

I'm a bit late to this thread but - why don't you follow some of the advices VuurVOS mentioned?

a) use temperature table in RBE with values that VuurVOS gave you, though I do usually recommend to have more like these:
0----24%
45---28%
50---32%
60---52%
70---60%
80---76%
90---92%
100--100%
...in combination with b) part

b) lower your clocks in 2D to around 200/250 (GPU/memory) and don't get back with "I don't need no software" cos you said there you NEED TO HAVE RIVATUNER INSTALLED ANYWAY (because of D3Doverrider blah blah) and you can do this in Rivatuner as well as in ATT. Also, you have Overrider in ATT as well if I'm not mistaken. So just setup one of those two programs and make your clocks lower in 2D. With these clocks I had 24-28% fan speed in Windows meaning some 45-50C idle.

c) since you already have Rivatuner (or ATT if you decide to do so) you can also tweak fans in it.

Soooo... if one of these solutions doesn't work, get back here. Just don't go saying you don't want "extra apps" if you have Rivatuner installed anyway.

Oh, and one more
d) do what VuurVOS told you in this post. You don't have to UNINSTALL them, just disable any temperature or fan monitoring. They are confirmed to be causing occasional spinups for no apparent reason (reason is in a way that sensors are being read etc)

Look up tables suck. Theres no need to stuff around lowering clocks either.

Hi,
Today I edited the clock's 2D of my 4870 to fall to 900 (2D, 3D 1150).

More when it jumps from 2D to 3D image of the monitor "flash" (the same way when you change the clock from memory by CCC).

How to resolve this?

Sorry for my bad english.

Well I think I solved the annoying fan spin up. The option for changing it on sapphire bios just does not work with RBE. It messes up the fan big time and speeds up too high.

So knowing that all sapphire cards are built by ati , I just flashed it with the latest ATI bios revision 2.

Low and behold, no more annoying spinups. Here is the one I used http://www.mvktech.net/component/op...func,fileinfo/filecatid,2763/parent,category/

Any ideas why using RBE to edit a sapphire bios does not work? Only thing I notice now is my idle clock is now 550mhz? Also RBE detects it as having superior powerplay and voltage drops, plus fan speed bug fix already enabled? What is different on this bios?

Here's the Nvidia one I did when I had my GTS G92 if you'd like to use that too...

Ohh Sorry, I will change the avatar :p

That's OK. You can keep using it if you want. I was really just kidding and surprised ...

Anyone know how to contact the maker of RBE? I am now 100% certain his calculations for Tslope are entirely incorrect.

Did you checked his emailadres in the program? You can also reach him here on the forums.

I'm new to RBE but have read much about it and it seems pretty straight forward to me. Has anyone tried the "Set all fan settings to recommended values" button? If so, what results did you have?

I've got a new HIS "Turbo" 4870 to install this weekend and was going to extract the bios and look at it to see if they made any changes. After I confirm that the card is good and have a chance to review the heat/fan speeds, etc. I was going to look at modding it with RBE if necessary. The author of RBE obviously spent some time experimenting so I would think the "recommend values" would be a much better place to start with fan tweaking. For instance, they took out the annoying "fan ramp up" and tweaked the "Hysteresis" values (I assume for better acoustics).

Can anyone give some input on these settings?

Anyone care to comment on the "Set all fan settings to recommended values" button???

That's the 105 bios, the first one on my signature is that same bios with better powerplay and fan profile.

Try it out.
