So my beloved P4P800 died a violent death after some overclocking... A terrible tragedy... Anyway, I was hoping you guys can help me to decide what to buy instead.

My old rig was p4 3ghz 1mb (Prescott, and nice one I might add ^_^ ), P4P800 (deluxe), 512Mb DDR 333 (why are you looking at me? I was tight on money that day, and lazy to buy more the other day) and GeForce FX5700 Ultra 128Mb. I have to say I was quite happy with my system, except for some lags after long work, it was fine.

After studying some reviews, prices (I remember days when 4Mb RAM costed 200+$ :) ) I decided to buy this one: AMD Phenom x4 9350e, ASUS M3N78-EM (8300), 2x1GB DDR2 1066Mhz. I stopped on AMD/Nvidia because I like AMD more than Intel and I very liked the idea of HybridPower. I'm going to buy GTX 260+ or some G350 (is it?) in 3-4 (6-7 :p ) months.

And here's the question for you - is my future AMD rig gonna be faster in old games (like UT2004, Dawn of War and etc.) than my previous? I suppose it will be faster in ordinary work/video watching and etc. but the games?..

Thanks in adnvance, and sorry for terrible english.

Welcome to the forums bud :).

The quad will be better than your old prescott in older games, but not as good as it will be in current games. Yet if you got a lot of background apps and processes, the quad will come in very handy!

itll be faster in both, the old prescotts were inferior to athlon 64's back in their day, so a phenom, with all its architectural updates should wipe the floor with that pentium. and the geforce 8300 should be faster than the fx5700, I dont know by how much but it should

Absolutely it will be faster. Everything about your new system is a few years better than your old, and well, you know what a few years does to computers. It will be leagues faster. The phenom can't touch the core 2, but easily destroys a pentium 4.

Thank for your replies guys! :)

A friend of mine gave me his old rig for few weeks (until I get mine, shiny and new :p ). It's like my old one, but has 1024Mb ram and geforce 6600GT 128Mb (with oc'ed memory 1000->1125). As I've studied in some vga charts 3450 and 8400 can't match 6600gt (pci-e one), 6600gt is like 8500gt. And 8300 (same as 780g) is a little slower than 3450. But (there's always a hairy but there) 6600gt is paired with a single-core P4 and 8300 will be paired with The quad-core Phenom (witch is, of course, slower than Core, but A64 architecture was always faster than NetBurst). And I suppose in new games 8300/Phenom will be much faster (just because 8300 supports dx10 :p ) but in good dx9 games (like Oblivion, HL2 and etc.) which are at least 2-threaded optimized what system will take the cup? And if takken, will be a little cup of poor silver, or a shiny pure 24-carat gold one? :)
