hi everyone im getting around 3 times aweek artifacts the size of the bottom tool bar . it happens when i boot up , and goes away when i restart the monitor. any ideas ?
just a extra , i always completely turn off my pc at the power once it has booted down . is this good for the monitor u reckon ?
Have you tried swapping your monitor with a known good one?
Just off the cuff, when I'm screwing around with gpu clocks, I generally look for 2 things. If I black screen, I'm using too much power. If I artifact, I'm not using enough.
But artifacts could be cause by all sorts of things. Failing monitor inverter, capacitors, bad diode or little failing board parts, etc.. Software incompatibility for some reason (corrupt) whatever. Who knows. Like someone else said it could be cables or switching from HDMI to Display Port (DP).
What's your hardware profile?
CPU (AMD or Intel) size and core.
Motherboard make & model
Ram, number of ram, type, latency, speed, are they all the same or different sizes, brand name(s).
Hard Drive/SSD is it getting full? size and type
graphics card make and model
Monitor, LG, Acer, Asus, AOC, MSI, ViewSonic, Sony, Samsung, Dell, etc. Size
power supply unit (psu)
Are you using a UPS unit? Model name (APC, CyberPower etc.), how many watts (size)? Small ups unit can't deliver power to larger psu. Power strips won't protect against brown outs (1/3 below the standard current, 120v) Low voltage likes to burn across connections. Fries your computer. Truth is, much of the time it will not harm it's visual integrity. It weakens circuits over a period of time.
For a while I use a Acer XF240H 144hz monitor. It doesn't start up when I turn on the system. I find I have to power the whole thing off or pull the plug on the monitor, press the start button, and then plug it back in. and start it. Then the monitor works fine. I believe there's a weak or bad capacitor that's isn't holding enough power when it first starts, doesn't have enough power to start up. So it has to be drained first, then restarted to filled back to capacity. Works fine. Been 3 years everyday that way. If you look for comments on the Newegg site, others have the same experience with this Acer model XF240H.
Listing your computer parts helps others and myself to better diagnose a problem, see hardware compatibility clues or offer clues for better parts.
I turn off my computer stuff, too. I know some people leave their stuff on even with the browsers loaded with websites. I can't do that but they seem to cruise into the future with no complications.
I turn off my computer stuff because of electronic wear. When electricity goes through a power line, it's molecular element (copper, silver, whatever), vibrates microscopically, passing electric current to the next molecule and goes on to your computer. Gradually, depending on the quality of the components, the gaps widen between molecules and metals start to fail in conductivity. In old, audio gear you can sometimes hear a faint hiss.
Sure, start up wears out parts too. Starting a computer makes burns on the snap switches. It can cause a power surge which isn't good either. It can blow out a computer if large enough. I use a use a UPS unit to protect against it.
