Hey guys so I'm on the lookout for possibly a new GPU, but I'm looking at my MoBo and I'm not sure if a 380x type card would fit? Their's a SATA III connector somewhat in the way and I dont wanna lose HDD performance.

My mobo is
b75ma-p45

The white SATA is the SATA III the others are II. Do you think their could be enough space? most cards like the 380x are about 10" x 5.5" and 1.65" height. and that SATA 3 is about 8" in

The new videocard should be in the top slot, so no problems there with your sata.

Hm? well that's awesome I somewhat tried to measure and all I could gather was it might be really really close so wasn't sure.

Unless anyone else figure's it wont fit then they can post other than that thanks for the quick reply :D

Just install the SATA connector before you put the GPU. Just be sure to use a righ angle connector, since otherwise it won't fit under the GPU.

Install the connector even if you aren't using it right now. You'll easily be able to attach a drive to it later without removing the GPU.

Hmm, I think it'l fit fine even with a straight connector, I think it makes no difference but ok a angled connector should work as well.

I'd be more concerned about the ram slots being so close to the gpu once installed.
If you want to swap ram you would have to remove the graphics card.

I would be concerned about this also, especially if the GPU you're looking at includes a backplate.

That is interesting guess I hadn't concidered about the backplate either and will have to take that into account. XFX doesn't have a backplate though so yeah even though I'd prefer a GPU with one. and if it did fit with a backplate would the backplate melt the ram slots or anything?

One more thing also I'm sure this is a no but this mobo doesn't support pascal/polaris right? and negative on DDR4 ram too?

All your questions i met a long time ago , from a boy . The backplate cant be an issue . The mobo has PCI-E x16 gen 3.0 slot , thus any PCI-E card will work , Polaris/Pascal included . No DDR4 support , only DDR3 RAM

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B75MA-P45.html#hero-specification

Edit : If have trouble with the backplate , remove it . It should be possible
MSI are no fools , they know long card exist . So dont worry about video card , close to the RAM slots .

was it polaris/pascal that has ddr5x memory? thought it'd be like ddr4 and not compatible. that's pretty new to me if my mobo is compatible with pascal/polaris and that's sweet. and true about the backplate, thanks

VRAM (GDDR5 here) has nothing to do with system /PC RAM . The first is on the video card . It must be compatible with the video card only .
