Hi all, I just recently received 2 GB of ram from newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211066). This makes four gigs of ram in my computer now, all the same. I'm using the following Motherboard (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131232&Tpk=p5n-d). Now for my question, Whenever the 4th ram slot is occupied with a stick of ram, my system does not boot. I know it's not the the ram that's the issue because i played around with the placement of the sticks and all the sticks work fine. Does this mean that the 4th ram slot in my motherboard has failed? Are there any solutions to this besides buying a new motherboard?

Let me know if you need more information.

Thanks in advance.

If you have tried sticking only 1 RAM stick in a time to see if any of them are defective, then there is an issue with your Mobo. See if you can take a look in the 4th slot see if anything is stuck in there (like hair, or one of the pins are not in the right position) , but in other words your Mobo is defective

Something new, It's not the 4th ram slot, it's only when all 4 ram slots are occupied, because it also booted up when I had #1,#3, and #4 occupied but #2 empty.

Some boards arent capable of running four sticks of ram with default Northbridge voltage. Try bumping the NB voltage one or two bumps and see if it fixes the issue!

Sneeky, how do I up the voltage?

In the bios...not familiar with your bios, I will have to google some images and see if I can find out more specifically where.

EDIT:Should be labled as northbridge under the jumperfree configuration section of your bios

It's not, but I did find the following under Hardware monitor menu on the Power tab of my BIOS

Vcore Voltage:1.31V
3.3V Voltage:3.21V
5V Voltage:4.97V
12V Voltage:12.09V

Is that what I want?

that is just telling you what they are currently. With ASUS it may be labled MCH instead of northbridge!

Found it, it's under voltage control on jumperfree.

I've got VCore, DRAM, HT, NB Chipset, and SB Chipset that I can modify the voltage of.

raise the Northbridge to 1.4-1.45V and see if the ram issue goes away!

Brought the voltage up to 1.44 (closest I can get without going over 1.45) and still nothing. Any suggestions?

well you could try a bit more but I would assume that much voltage should have fixed it. Only other thing I could think is to bump the ram to 1.9V from default and see if that may help. if not I would say it is a motherboard limitation.

I bumped the DRAM up to 1.9 and the NB up to 1.5 and still nothing. I guess I'll be buying a new mobo. I need a good mobo for gaming, Nvidia SLI capable, 4 ram slots, Intel. Any suggestions?

What kind of hardware do you got? Fill in your "System Specs" in your "User CP" so we can fully see what you have (GPU, CPU, PSU, HDD's, etc...) and we can pick out a good one for you.

I have a Q6600 on a eVGA 780i with triSLI 9800GTX's , was able to overclock it no problem, and I loved it.

This maybe looks good and theres the ftw addition link. not hered many complaints about evga or is there a brand you prefer?.

I've had problems with A data memory on certain boards.

System specs up.
Gam'ster, I don't have a brand that I personally prefer, being that i've only built one computer.
blkhogan, I've never had a problem with this memory before, it was running great in my machine.

Foxconn Bloodrage :D

Maybe something that won't break the bank? lol Looking for something under $200

Ill stick with what i posted as i usually only suggest items that i would spend my money on with a pre-determined budget in mind. But i just guessed that under $200 was a reasonable one as the board you have now is in that price bracket :).

for the cost of a 2X2GB kit of DDR2 ram these days Id buy a set and keep the mobo you have now!

Those arent a bad choice.

I figure something with that many good reviews can't be bad. I think i'll go that route, much cheaper then a new mobo. Thanks for all the help everyone, I'd still be scratching my head otherwise.
