just a thought this but...

if u buy a legit copy of windows then lose the cd or the dog eats it.. should ms replace it free of charge.. ???

i recon they should or at least send u a new cd for a nominal charge..

u dont buy the "CD" just the data on it and the right to use it in a certain way.. if for some reason u lose the piece of plastic the data came on u still have the right to use the data..

soooo i recon if ms refused to send u another piece of plastic and they deny u the right to copy the said piece of plastic in the first place they are denying u the right to use something u have properly paid for... ????

this applies more so to games that irritatingly insist u have the original cd in the drive before u can play em.. ????

soooo does losing the piece of plastic mean u have lost your rights to use the software or dosnt it..

as i say just athought.. he he

with windows and other software you buy a licence to allow you to install the software on your pc. you do not own the data on the disk, this still belongs to microsoft, as this is protect by international copyright and intellectual property laws. so no they would not replace a windows disk, you lose it thats you bad, but if you lose you licence key and you registrated you windows licence then they would give you your licence information.

its crappie i know, but say thank you to the intellectual property laws that states that the creator of the software owns the rights to the software, the user only owns the rights to use (aka licence to use).

If you still have a legit cd key, then download a disc image of windows...

Thats what I did :)

no of course u dont own the data but i recon u own the right to use it as per license agreement.. it the cd gets scratched and u and need a windows install.. how can u use it if u cant reinstall it.. ???

i am only talking hypothetical here.. i know there are more dodgy copies of windows about than u can swing a stick at..

Well I think they will replace the disc for a fee.
