msata cache mini/ half size/ 25mm

OK, I have an ASUS S56C Ultrabook that came with a 24GB msata 25mm Kingston cache. It worked well until about a week ago. I just removed it, since it was freezing my computer since Windows wanted it to work.

Anywho, I have been shopping for a replacement. bigger, cheap, and hopefully functional for more than a couple years!

I am leaning towards the first one, MyDigitalSSD vs. the other one sold by M-Factor. It's cheaper, shipped by Amazon and M-Factor has had some recent complaint issues, according to their sellers page on Amazon.

Does anyone want to stop me from purchasing the MyDigitalSSD? Make it concise and soon, will be pulling the plug, this evening.

Is Their place for a sata Drive ? Get a regular solid state drive , or am I missing something

Just seems like a lot of money for a very small amount of storage which is no faster than a regular solidstate drive less Im missing something

It used as a cache, and no, no more space. It is a Laptop and there are no standouts for anything bigger.

I am using it with an SSD, Crucial 240GB. It helps, the cache, in Slightly noticeable way.

I could probably do without but, I may as well use it, also.

does it have a SSD for its main drive, or a HDD?

it strikes me as one of those throw backs from when SSD's were really pricey, and frankly for $100 about, you could get a 250 or more of SSD space and make the whole "cache" thing moot

if theres a DVD/cd drive, they make sata adapters that allow You another spot for a SSD or HDD 2.5", but if it has a SSD the cache thing is not worth the $$, just replace the main drive

my point is , i wouldnt waste money replacing a component like that, when you could just install an SSD as the main drive, etc..

I have had few laptops that used to have mSATA slot, so I've had several mSATA drives which are now replaced by M.2.

In my experience, mSATA didn't sometimes last long. A workstation laptop I have currently uses mSATA format and its mSATA died few weeks ago and it was only 2 years old. I don't have that good of experience with other mSATA, either.

In contrast, I haven't had a M.2 drive drop dead on me yet.

To sum it up, I'd say pass on and live without mSATA. It's a dead format and prices are becoming too much for its size.

Check my system specs. it's the ASUS. It has an MX100 Crucial and, until recently, a Kingston 24GB cache (on a mini msata). I figure I can more than double the size, 64GB, and help my comp be the fastest it can be. I swear, it does make a difference.

I don't sneeze at $44.99, but it doesn't cause me the shakes, either. I know the prices are more than they should be but, tomorrow they might be even more expensive...LOL.

If you're running a solid-state drive any difference that you may think is achieved by running that outdated technology is nonexistent it's a placebo effect if anything.

Since you're a fellow TPU member I'm trying to do you the favor of saving you what I assume is hard-earned money ,from wasting it on something like a dead tech,

You're not gaining any speed or performance by adding 50 GB solid state drive to a system that is installed on a solid-state drive , I understand you feel that there is a difference but it's just the simple fact that there isn't. Unless your main drive is junk and slow but assuming it's not it's a waste of money to buy that thing

I'm sure someone will agree for you to buy one if that's what you're looking for but I'm not gonna say buy one ,because it's a fact that it's worthless , or at least a waste of money

Buy a bigger main Drive ,or get a second set of 2.5 and stall it in the DVD drive bay with an adapter maybe get some memory if you're itching to buy something

I've been slugging this out and I find there isn't any difference, by slugging it out, I mean, opening a bunch of shit up.

The biggest difference is that it isn't locking up, since I removed it, earlier today. Speed-wise? Seems fine. I am going to close the Amazon window and forget I ever wanted one of these cache thingys!!

BTW, I like the keychain accessory.
