If the price was lower, I'd have gone with a 4090.. But at $1089 I went with the XFX 7900 XTX. Eyefinity is better than 2d surround anyway. (it never drops a screen like Nvidia did.) Now that 24gb of VRAM will be to good use with 4Kx3 sim racing!!!!

What's happening with (both) 4090's in 1 % lows, at 1080p specifically?
They look oddly out of place sometimes, but since it's consistent between both models I don't think it's an issue with the benchmarks?

I'd happily choose msi 4090 gaming x trio in the first sight, like my previous 3080 gaming x trio, 2080 ti gaming x trio, 1080 ti gaming x, and 980 ti gaming 6g. But I have to move to asus 4090 tuf this time around, because in my country they are too stubborn for retaining 2 years warranty since forever compared to asus which has 3 years.

The Nvidia ada cpu overhead is pretty big, so they get cpu limited earlier than other cards

$1600, $1700 or $2000, for one thing it doesn't matter: the GeForce RTX 4090 card is REALLY expensive. In return you get the best, and apparently a lot of people want that and are willing to pay the price, or the cards wouldn't have been out of stock for months.

@W1zzard, there’s a big flaw in this review - which in general I really like: Ada Lovelace is not manufactured in 4nm but in a process called 4N, short for 4Nvidia. It’s a common misconception that these two abbreviations mean the same. 4N is in fact an optimized 5nm process. Please correct it .

It's garbage, I think it's actually one of the very few models that doesn't have a vapor chamber in the cooler...

Vapor chambers are useless for these GPUs and the hottest one barely reaches 72°C (with quiet BIOS). These chambers only serve to make you spend extra money.

My first thought, but it doesn't happen to the 4080 and the 4070 Ti. In fact, it frequently falls behind both of them. And only at 1080p.

Taking Control 1 % lows as an example. There are a few others. The 4090 falls behind even the 3080. It has higher 1 % lows in 1440p than in 1080p, while all other CPUs scale as expected.
This seems to be something intrinsic with the 4090, happens in a few other titles as well.

The company most affordable RTX 4090 card available is the : MSI GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming Trio. Without the X , that's the one i actually bought at msrp of $1599 US Dollars at BestBuy a while ago. They come and go in and out of stock but can still be found in stock most of the time.

Gaming X Trio only difference against the stock/vanilla Gaming Trio is the cooler shroud and a tiny overclock , hence why is $100 less dollars for Gaming Trio. They shared the exact same pcb. Also a higher power limit Bios can be safely flashed to it , like the 600w Suprim liquid Bios to it and runs happy with it 0 , zero , nada problems. Also for the water cooling loving crowd there is many full cover water block choices from Byski , EK to Phantek. I run mine on the Phantek FC h2o block.

My theory is that the card fails to manage power states properly in some games with the lower load at 1080p, causing the frame pacing to go haywire.
But we would need additional data on core clock, power draw, etc to know for sure.

I have the Liquid Suprim X of this card. First thing I did was bios flash to the full 600watt bios. Slider goes to 125% now

Microcenter has a PNY 4090 for $1599 before the 5% membership discount which will be $1519 after discount. Also they have dozens of 7900 xtx at msrp at and around $999 fyi.

I picked this card up last week from BB. They have them for $1650 and with the 10% off coupon I had and $100 in certificates saved up from my LG OLED purchase, it was a solid deal at $1385. I would have been happy with one of the $1599 options like the FE or the non X, but in my area they never went in stock. Could easily find more expensive models like the Gigabyte OC, Asus Tuf and MSI Suprim X, but from what I can tell overclocking is so marginal between cards and the better coolers only shave a few C off, so not really that compelling to me.

Pretty pleased with it overall. Mine has a little coil whine in some situations, but nothing too bad. Memory OC is limited to about +1400 and +175 is the most I can do on the core. With that I will see frequencies peak in the 2970 range which seems to be only about average for a OC'd 4090, so mine did not win the silicon lottery. But, I just set it at +125 and +1000 memory for 24/7 use with stock voltage and power limit and custom fan curve to peak at 50%. With that, temps max at about 65C, 73C hotspot and 66C memory playing cyberpunk @ 4k and it is relatively silent, at least in relation to my environment and my case fans. I may play with reducing voltage next, see what it might do with 0.950v.
