Will i slow down my Video card in PCie x16 slot if i was to populate M.2_1 and M.2_2 slots with PCie 4.0 x4 M.2 Drives?

Plan on getting Updated Faster Boot Drive @ Christmas, and then added 2nd M.2 For The Games into Slot 2 (hopefully at same time as i get the New boot one,

Plan is do Windows Install Cleanly, i know i could clone current drive to the NEW Samsung, I may still do that, not entirely sure yet) and Currently Games are on Sata 1TB SSD.

Specs are as follows

MSI Pro B650 VC WIfi Rev 1.0
AMD Ryzen 7700X
AMD Radeon 7800XT OC 16GB
32GB Teamgroup RGB 5600mhz
Kingston NVMe 1TB (Boot)
Samsung 860 Evo Sata 1TB SSD (Current Game Drive)
Case: Lian Li Lancool 216 ARGB
Windows 11 Pro 26100.2454

According to the spec sheet for your board, MSI make no indication if the primary graphics card slot will be slowed down with 2 x M.2 PCIe drives installed if PCIe 4.0.
Took me 30 seconds to look that up...

That's a rather unusual board in so much that it has 2 x 8pin CPU power connectors yet no VRM heatsinks.... o_O

What does your manual show?

Manual shows Nothing that says that using both M.2 slots that would slow down PCie Card

Specs sheet shows
Slots M1 and M2--From CPU x 4

a little Noob with Hardware still though, but learning as i go here

Yes this board was the one i picked in my Ibuypower Ready build with exact specs i wanted in July, AMD Processor and AMD Radeon Video card

and Motherboard that had 2 M.2 slots for future use

Most likely doing a clean install when i install the New Samsung 990 Evo Plus M.2 (Most likely boot drive) and Samsung 990 Pro 1TB as Game M.2 into Slot 2

Hopefully the Standoff is already present in Slot 2, if not i'll find one in the screw container hopefully, and get both of them installed

My previous older systems motherboard didn't have VRM heatsinks either, but i think that one was cheaper board, as only had 1 M.2 Slot, no ARGB

((Old Board Gigabyte B460M_DS3H) With Older Intel 10700) with Nvidia Geforce 1660 Super
((Current board MSI B650M-VC Wifi)) with AMD Ryzen 7 7700X and Radeon 7800XT OC 16GB

This Pic of M.2 Slot 1

Slot 2 the 2nd Picture, i know not the best quality and i gotta do another dust clean out soon, may do at same time as i do the M.2 installs. Think slot 2 gonna have to find a standoff for--to properly secure the M.2 drive

You have enough lanes, don't worry about it.

Thank you!

Then works on getting installed soon as got time--possibly right on Christmas, as 2nd M.2 hasn't even shipped yet from Amazon lol. Think will go smoothly hopefully

Do plan on also conducting dust clean out with my Electric A2 Air duster while i have the case open, and hopefully that goes nice and smoothly

Then will decide if Cloning boot drive or doing complete clean install, had system since July 12th, so leaning towards a Clean Install at this point

**Might open it sooner and do the dust clean out, not entirely sure yet, and also get Standoff properly set in M2_2 slot (bottom one)**

**I tend to worry way too much at times**

Better ask.

Only the mainboard manual gives a definite answer. I had it several times that the homepage of a mainboard did not reveal facts.

Most boards have that. For the "overclocking" marketing feature.

Update: Received Both Drives as Christmas Gifts Last Month--December 25th 2025

Gotten Both Drives Installed

System is working perfectly fine

My Cloning device was late arriving, so i opted to just do a clean install, and reinstalled everything where i exactly wanted it.

System performing great!

Did update the Firmware on both Samsung M.2 Drives shortly after the clean install

Overall Very Happy!

((would've updated this thread sooner, but kinda forgot to with the busy days off and on had))

Thank you everyone for the replies, really appreciate it
