Much difference?

Hi there.

I am about to buy 2gb Crucial Tracers.
Of course i want to oc.

But is there much difference in the 6400 and the 8000/8500?
If the 6400 can reach 1200/1300Mhz to then i have no problem with saving some cash.
But if the 8000/8500 are better overclockers then i will go for those.

8500s for sure. Ram is so cheap just do it. More headroom with the 1066 kit.

But the way i see it is that the 8500's are just overclocked 6400's with looser timings.
Or did they use special binned chips for the 8500's?

They are both D9's but the 8500's are binned higher.

They may be binned higher, and I loved my Ballistix 8500's, but many 6400 D9's will clock just as high.

I thought all Crucilal Ballistx ram are D9's because Crucial is a Micron brand.

Get the 8500 for $150 or the 6400 for half?
Would the 8500's clock so much higher that it is worth half more?

Acording to the JEDEC standard anything over DDR2800 (PC26400) is considered overclocked.

mine are Crucial Ballistix Tracer 1066 and they are a dream! I have them at 1100 with a 1:1 ratio. My oc is good and the only thing wrong with going higher at a 6 multi is the heat they are drawing...
