I installed mwf2 this morning and played for about 4 hours, i come back tonight and i am getting severe framerate spikes, that result in a frozen screen (sound still seems to work) for 10-20 seconds, and often the game becomes non-responsive and i have to manually shut it down.

Built the computer myself around half a year ago, has a gigabyte mobo (cant remember make), 4gb ddr3 ram, tricore AMD phenom II 2.80 ghz, and a evga geforce GTX 260, vista 64 bit. Any other questions and ill get back to them as i can.
Please help, i dont give a shit about whether you think the game is bad or not.

Please go here and select Yes to show your specs, and fill out everything you can.

Was this a retail boxed copy or a Steam copy? SP/Special Ops/MP?

And I happen to love the game myself :)

:toast: Welcome to TPU!

retail box, thanks

When you say that you need to "manualy shut it down" are you only refering to the game itself (by using Task Manager) or the whole computer (using the reset button)?
If you only shut down the game and the computer still works I'm tempted to say that it's a graphics card related problem, either it is overheating or you have a bogus driver version.
You can monitor the temperature with the help of GPU-Z, as for the cards drivers just get the most recent one version available at nVidia

Please be advised that the problem might be related to other issues too, but this seems (to me at this time) the most obvious/significant.

i mean task manager. drivers should be recent as the computer is less than half a year old, and when it was made i updated all drivers.

If its my gpu overheating im going to be extremely pissed, because the only reason i bought that card is because it was reported to run at lower temperatures.

If the drivers you are using are older than the game you are having troubles with, you need to update.

updating now, ill report back when im finished.

gpu-z just told me that i have the most recent updates, for the drivers it looked like, im still installing anyways.

same error still, fun fact: the lag happens in the lobby too, if i sit in the lobby enough the game will freeze for large amounts of time, sound is not skipping.

im also running ventrillo which i have a godawful amount of problems with as well, which could possibly be contributing.

Seems like this came out of nowhere. If it played fine for four hours and then started messing up when you came back, was there anything that changed in the system in that time?

Have you checked the video card cooling for dust?

Well, firstly, does it happen on any other 3D intensive games or applications?

Your system isn't running a scheduled task such as defragmenting hard drives, virus scan, windows update etc is it?

Since it was running fine for 4 hours then it shoulnd't be drivers being outdated but something else on your system doing something which is causing your problem.

I havent had anything this rig cannot play yet, and tbh this computer has more than the specs for this game, i played mwf1 through the single campaign and countless hours online.
Nothing could have changed in the system except for a physical compromise in my gpu which is what concerns me, though the case seems relatively cool and i dont smell any ozone. Im reluctant to check due to the amount of cords id have to dig through, but ill take a look tomorrow, its past my bedtime.

No background programs, when i run the game my ram usage is around 80% with mozilla and vent in the background and my cpu usage is about 50%. A few days ago avast told me someone tried to plant a trojan on my computer (through a video viewing website like youtube) but no odd activity occured. I just went in WoW in the middle of blackrock ( the busiest server) with 100+ characters online at the spot in question and was pulling 30 fps, which is normal.

This is bad.

haha. the side panel has a fan on it, its not as bad as it sounds im just lazy right now. /yawn

Just checked, the gpu is warm not hot, and there is a small amount of dust that for the most part was wiped off.

If the gpu was burnt i wouldnt be able to play wow anyways, i also reinstalled mwf2 but to no avail.

im back, just tried running it again, same issue.

tried running it without vent on and while setting its priority to high through task manager, no dice.
