my cpu is now showing only 2 cores

seems kind of odd that a cable would be good for a while then just go bad. Glad you were able to fix it though.
 
I've seen many a computer guru trumped with a seemingly unsolvable problem that was caused by a sneaky bastard SATA cable. It should always be on the short list to try.
 
maybe it disable from windows so check this, go to run==msconfig==advance options==number of possessors, and see how much cores are active, also try download last cpu-z
