Pros:

Open Source
Runs so damn fast (and I have games from all three stores, epic games store always lags like hell scrolling through the library, but heroic games launcher is just super fast)
Really nice search function at the top of the launcher so I can quickly check hey do I own that game... before I accidently buy it on a steep steam sell (forgetting I got it for free on one of these three stores first)
vast vast majority of the games here were free from epic games stores, GoG giveaways, Prime subscriber amazon games giveaways that I have built up over the years
very clean interface
OLED friendly design (all the games are washed out black and white until you hover over a game then the colors light up on it... very kind of them :)

Cons:
Wish it had EA App, Rockstar, and Ubisoft Connect support, then my life would be complete, just two launchers: Steam + Heroic Games
There are no more cons, it's 10/10 fucking open source software, and proof why open source is the only way to live your life
Why are you still reading this

Example game: Space Marine, almost bought it on steam, but then checked here and was like yep it was free at some point through amazon games apparently and I just forgot... so I just saved 10 bucks cause I wanted to play the campaign.

edit: you can ignore the warning path may not be writable warning in yellow, i have no idea why this is there, i click install and it plays fine, so i have no idea why its even there

@W1zzard if you ever get to meet the team or whoever made this app, please give them a high five, cause they rock my socks, hell, even Steam doesn't have an OLED friendly mode and these guys/girls made this software for free to my knowledge.

I'm not a "launcher" kind of person, but I did take a look. It does look pretty good! The security and privacy concerns seem to be addressed in a satisfactory way.

Do you mind checking that for me, please? Can that software import Game Directories?

I'm on a metered connection. In a very well known brand shopping house I download games much faster to my noteobook. Than I move the files and very quick import them to my main box. Epic game store improved that game import. Most usually only a few MB are downloaded in teh worst case.

I tend now to move hole games to storage or back later.

Thanks for your efforts to write a tech article

I don't know about entire libraries, but as you can see from my screenshot, yes, you can import instead of download. The button for it is in the screenshot.

It's a staple tool on linux, in particular for getting Epic Games purchased or free titles to run. Really no better tool for it.

“Epic Games Launcher is clunky” admits CEO, “long journey ahead” to make it as easy as Steam

personally, I think Heroic Games Launcher is even better than Steam. simple, elegant, hit play. game plays. boom that's all you need baby ~ I love minimalism. Steam has to much bloat these days.

I used Heroic as an alternative to GOG Galaxy for a while but since I'm not too bothered about tracking my games anymore I just launch the executables from my desktop. Heroic is kind of like a hub for all your executables if you still want progress tracking.

Definitely the most simple and no-fuss experience from a launcher.

I don't really care about progress tracking, I just like having all my games in one place, and a simple easy way to launch them and automatically keep them up to date. Heroic Games Launcher does that for me for a big chunk of my library. I only wish I could add my Steam Library, Rockstar, EA, and Uplay libraries to it. I'd be one happy camper if I could. Sadly it doesn't work that and never will, but at least I can enjoy it for 3 of my libraries.

Ahh man, One launcher to rule them all..... Bliss

Fully agree.

I use Bazzite. Steam and Heroic are preinstalled.
There is really no easier way to make your games run in Linux. I use it with my Steam and GoG games.

EA app support would be very nice. I tried it with Battlefield V, but that game crashes after the creating shaders or something like that in the beginning.

And only someone who lived there will get that!
My mom is from the east coast, and I was subjected to all the British shows on the CBC, and some mannerisms too..

And she loves the brown sauce :twitch:

I lived there. I'm not with your mom on that. The "brown" sauce is like "Worcestershire" sauce, but with a hint of tuna & garlic and not in a good way. Not tasty and I'm sooo not a fan..

EDIT: Sorry for the offtopic distraction. Forgot what thread this was. We now return everyone to your regularly scheduled topic of discussion! :toast:

I myself love Playnite.

Back in the day we had MPlayer.com, Heat.net, Gamespy... those were game launchers and had communities.
