My SoF Payback woes

Well, I only just read today that Soldier of Fortune: Payback; has been banned from Australia.

So, I'm hoping I can buy an American/Canadian copy on the net and get it shipped here without it being destroyed by customs or summat. I bought my CPU from `Egg just as they were offering that crappy Splinter Cell Double Agent game for free with it and it 'worked' on my friends computer so I don't think there is an NTSC to PAL incompatibility?

Apparently Activision refused to comment on Payback's ban from Australia and also did not comment on it's thoughts of Australia's gaming censorship. The maximum level of which is MA15+, and even games that receive that classification are frowned upon.

That sucks. The really, really sucks. No Manhunt, and now no SoF. I seriously just shed a tear for you. I hope your plight (and the plight of your people) gets better soon (in other words, let them pull their heads out of their asses and introduce a better rating system, as opposed to just banning every game that leaves a bad taste in their mouths).

lol thats true in most places. UK isn't all that bad, i think we are getting SOF3 here but i don't care i've got my copy and another making it's way into my hard drive as we speak. Games like Manhunt took a little while to get banned here and usually after some retarder 9 year old who's had a shot clubs his brother across the head and kills him. I have heard only once of an incedent like this featuring a game as a motive. World Wrestling on the other hand, i've heard countless stories of kids getting seriously hurt after jumping on a friends head copying Scotty 2 Hotty or whatever he's called, and it's still on DAYTIME and EVENING TV for kids as young as 5 to watch. is it me or is something not quite right with censorship these days?

I'm a diehard SOF fan and still play and run a clan and 2 servers in SOF2.. I had SOF Payback for all of 1 day and I can sum up the game in 1 word it SUCKS.. It is in no way like SOF except for the name itself, that would'nt have been so bad if they actually made a quality game.. The graphics are very weak considering the kind of hardware/power available these days, it looks like a weak ass watered down kids version of the original COD with a little extra blood.. In all honesty your not missing anything I traded my copy of Payback in for COD4 and COD4 is FAAAAR superrior

still doesn't get round the point that Australia's censorship is extremly harsh in comparison to europe, in europe almost every single thing is avaliable. Marijuana=Holland, Hardcore Porn=Holland, Crazy wierd Porn & Great chocolate=Belgium, you get where im going, some things shouldn't be banned (SoF3, Manhunt) and some things should (Pokemon,WWE)

At this point in time, we're so morally backwards as a society, it would do people some good to not have violence readily available.
I really don't see the problem; it's a game get over it.

it would be great if there was no violence, but it's everywhere all the time, as we grow up we see violence from different angles and we make our own minds wether it's right or wrong, face it we are never going to rid violence from our society. I do beleive you are wrong however of us living in abackwards society. Over the last 100 years we have seen society stableise and grow stronger, violence is still ever present but we havn't had a war to claim over a million lives since WWII. Today we make ever more progress into the understandings of ourselves and the world around us and it's not just the people in the white coats, people are begining to see beyond their visual borders and seeing a world completly different from theirs, untill the mass burst of media during the 20th century people at home in England had no idea if a natural disaster had happened in Kuala Lumper untill like 4 days after when it arrived in the papers or the telegrams, TV shortly changed that over and sinc then we have been learning for ourselves.
Morally backwards though i don't follow, morraly speaking we have gained nor loss anything in the way of Morals, if anything society will never change it's morals being on a couple of things, Face it World peace aint going to happen, Once one debate is solved someone else gets pissed of with someone and bang another feud, 2nd there will never be one confound religion making it impossible for morals to change, people have a way of living and it's thier choice wether or not violence is acceptable. One voice can't change this.

What I mean is censorship in a whole, I'm not just talking about video games here any more or I would have said video game censorship. Our movies, TV shows, games & music are generally not provided to us by the director/publisher/artist in it's full and raw form because what we see and what we play and what we listen to is chosen for us by a board of people we don't know. We have no say in what we get to watch, and that pisses me off. The full extent of life covers things like violence, sex, drugs & "coarse" language. But then it gets censored from us by other people. I find it completely unnecessary, I've played every GTA to date, for hundreds of hours and I don't go take a gun to a public school and slaughter a few children. I don't kill cops, steal their squad car, drive to my school and then proceed to kill people. I've watched Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas dozens of times, but I don't do week long drug binges in Las Vegas while I'm typing a journalist report to myself.

Personally I think my point demonstrates itself when I mention to you that the first two SoF games got into Australia fine, and this third one has been immediately refused into the country.
